Mrs. Yahne was a lifetime Great Bend, Kansas resident.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Barton County Desk and Derrick, Western Kansas Chapter of API, Oil and Gas Museum board, Girls Home board, and was a volunteer for the Barton County Food Bank.

John Richard Grant

June 4, 1931 – October 20, 2013

Dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and brother, John Richard Grant passed away peacefully at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital surrounded by loved ones. John, often called Richard by his family and friends, will be deeply missed especially by his children, Rita O’Gwin and husband David of Larned, John Grant and wife Monica of Adams OK, Leonard Grant and wife Cindy of Larned, Evelyn Grant and husband Rick Morse of Portland, OR, Pauline Hampton and husband David of Larned, Margaret Grant of Larned, Lisa Grant and husband Tom Magliery of Vancouver, BC, Doris Grant of Orem, UT, Marlene Lira and husband Joe of Kansas City, and Shannon Nichol and husband Eric of Topeka, and his 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his siblings Russell Grant of Macon MO, and Bessie Kruse of Wessington Springs, SD.

John was preceded in death by, his beloved wife of 57 years, Roberta Grant, his mother and father, Evelyn and John Grant, his step-mother Doris Grant, and his siblings Lorraine Grant-Nash and Harry Alfred Grant and grandson John Zachary Grant.

John was born in Mitchell, SD and was a graduate of Plankington High School in Plankington, SD and a veteran of the Koren War. He was a self-employed man who worked hard at many jobs to sustain his large family. His work included farming, milk delivery routes, feedlot work, and a brief stint at the Larned State Hospital. He had a life-long interest in finding new uses for items. Even long after he retired he continued to tear down old houses and barns to salvage the lumber.

John was a devoted father who was proud of his family and taught them the value of hard work. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The family sincerely appreciates the excellent care provided by Dr. Sanger, Dr. Alcindor and Dr. Estephan, and all the staff at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. The family is grateful that their dad was able to spend his last days surrounded by, not only his family, but also his loving health care providers for many years. It was evident our dad’s personality and smile affected others in the way that the staff really cared for him.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Vigil service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with military graveside rites.

Dorothy Gladys McChristy

Larned – Dorothy Gladys McChristy, 98, died October 22, 2013 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born November 20, 1914, at Centerview, the daughter of Matthew Ebenezer and Gladys Cramblett Brown. She graduated from Centerview High School and farmed south of Lewis. She was a housewife throughout her marriage and worked at the Larned State Hospital as a mental health technician for 26 years beginning in 1956. She moved to Larned in 1976.

She was a lifetime faithful member of the Church of Christ, belonging at death to the Larned Church of Christ. Other past memberships include, Farm Bureau, TOPS and the Senior Kitchen Band.

On May 29, 1939, she married Robert E. McChristy. He passed away June 4, 1974.

Survivors include: two sons, Dayle McChristy, Larned, KS. and Neal (SanDee) McChristy, Pittsburg, KS.; Two daughters, Dema (Loris) Luginsland, Americus, KS. And Cheryl (Arvin) Peterson, Tuttle, Oklahoma; two brothers, Merle (Elva) Brown, Temple, Texas and Clinton(Donna) Brown, Colby, KS; a sister, Evelyn McLean, Buhler, KS.; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Marion and Loren Brown and a sister, Eula Brand.

The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, KS. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. with James Underwood and Jimmy Keyes presiding. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery, Lewis.

Richard LewisLarned – Richard H. Lewis, 80, died October 23, 2013, at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

He was born July 22, 1933, in Timken; the son of Willis (Tad) and Hazel I. Vanderford Lewis. A lifetime area resident; he was a heating and air conditioning technician.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Larned.

On June 18, 1965, he married Gwendolyn (Gwen) F. Morris in Larned. She passed away August 6, 2004.

Survivors include; a son, Patrick and wife Dana, Hesston; a daughter, Pam Lewis, Larned; two brothers, Eldred and Joel; eight grandchildren, Peyton and Gunnar Lewis, Jenna, Zach, Ryan and Megan Foglesong, Elliott Clark and Emily Lewis and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; a son, Randall; three brothers, Harlen, Glenn and Guy and three sisters, Neva Washburn, Fern Moore and Beryl Buhrer.

BARBARA  A.  “BOBBI”  DONNER

 

            Barbara A. “Bobbi” Donner, age 71 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on Tuesdaymorning, October 22, 2013 at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend, where she had resided for the past two years.  Bobbi was born on February 3, 1942 at Topeka, Kansas to John D. and Blanche (Hall) Mullinix, and grew up in Topeka prior to moving with her family to northern California as a teenager.  She was united in marriage to Robert Donner on July 11, 1959 at Paradise, California.  Barbara lived in the cities of Paradise, Chico, and Tuscon, California until moving to Great Bend four years ago.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Great Bend, Kansas.

            Survivors include one son, Robert Daniel (and his wife, Tina) Donner of Queens Creek, Arizona and two daughters:  Gail A. (and her husband, Shane) Santy of Great Bend, Kansas and Sandra E. Donner of Eugene, Oregon; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters:  Lorraine (and her husband, Robin) Sears of Petaluma, California, Diana (and her husband, Theodore) Thomas of Eagle Lake, California, and Lola Jeanette “Jeannie” (and her husband, Johnny) Ortiz of Sunnyvale, California.  Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Robert Donner on September 11, 2001), and one sister (Peggy Housman).

Mr. Prosser was a lifelong Great Bend, Kansas area resident.

He was an Army National Guard veteran.  

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, charter member of Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsman Club, NRA, Kansas Wildlife Federation, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #646, and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and music, having played saxophone in a polka band.

            Laura A. Bader, age 52 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at her home in Great Bendon Monday morning, October 21, 2013 after a lengthy illness.  Laura was born on July 4, 1961 at Great Bend to Paul and Marie (Binder) Molleker.  She moved with her family to Hays, Kansas, where she attended school and graduated from Marian High School in 1979.  Laura was united in marriage to Michael Bader on June 19, 1981 at Hays, Kansas and the couple made their home in Great Bend.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, ceramics, needlepoint, and making felt Christmas stockings and ornaments.

            Survivors include her husband, Michael Bader of Great Bend, Kansas; one son, Frederick “Eric” Bader and one daughter, Sarah (and her husband, James) Bader-King, all of Roeland Park, Kansas; two brothers:  Paul Molleker, Jr. of California and Richard Molleker of Washington; two sisters:  Lisa and Darlene Molleker, both of Hays, Kansas; nieces and nephews.  Laura was preceded in death by her parents.

            It was Laura’s wishes that no funeral services be held.
