She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, St. Patrick traditional choir for more than forty years, charter member of Daughters of Isabella, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Barton County Chorale, all of Great Bend.

Marie Hohl

Ella “Marie” Hohl, 92, died Aug. 24 at Heritage Health Care, Chanute. Born May 26, 1921 at Crockett, Texas, she was the daughter of G.L. and Louella (Minter) Wilcox.

Marie married Lawrence Henry Hohl Nov. 8, 1941 at Dallas, Texas. He died March 2, 1993. She worked for Bushton Public Schools from 1959 to 1987 as a secretary. Mrs. Hohl was a longtime Bushton resident, recently living in Omaha, Neb., and Chanute. She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Bushton Study Club, all of Bushton.

lude three daughters: Loretta Jenkins and her husband Marvin of Kilgore, Texas; Carolyn Oehlert of Omaha, Neb.; and Arlene Hasty of Chanute. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Neil Oehlert and Bill Hasty; and one brother, Gerald Wilcox.

Dodge City – Fannie I. Smith, 87 died August 24, 2013 at the Galichia Heart Hospital, Wichita.

She was born January 16, 1926 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Glenn B and Ida S. Tuggle Wade.  She was a past resident of Larned; moving to Dodge City in 1997, and a current resident of Sedgwick since 2013.  She was a Registered Nurse for the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and was a Godly woman.

On April 4, 1954 she married Chester D. Smith in Larned, Kansas.  He survives.

Other survivors include; a son, Glenn and wife Katie, Valley Center; a sister, Willa Mae Bryant, Haysville, two grandchildren, Jacob and Jackie Smith both of Valley Center; and three great grandchildren.

Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.  There will be no visitation.

Helen was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Altar Society, Great Bend.  She enjoyed all aspects of homemaking, including sewing, crocheting, baking, and gardening.  She also enjoyed her pet dogs and rock hunting and collecting.

SISTER AMATA PANTEL

Name of Deceased: Sister Amata Pantel                                           Age: 95

 

Sister Amata Pantel, 95, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend.

 

Born April 25, 1918, in Wakefield Kan., as Josephine Pantel, Sister Amata was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Bower Pantel. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community August 28, 1934, and pronounced her first vows August 12, 1937. She celebrated seventy-five years of religious profession in 2012.

 

Sister Amata gave much of her ministerial life to domestic work in the sisters’ missions, laundries, kitchens and sewing rooms. Later she served as a teacher aide, gardener at the motherhouse, and in home health services. She retired in 1994.

 

Sister Amata is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Peace religious community, and one brother, Ernest of Palisade, Colo., and one sister, Betty Lou Evans of Denver, Colo.

 

Sister Amata’s body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, on Monday, August 26 at 4:00 p.m., where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, with Rev. James Hoover presiding and Rev. Anselm Eke concelebrating. A wake service will be held Monday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Sisters’ ResurrectionCemetery. Both the wake and the funeral will be held at the convent. Friends may call at the convent Monday evening, August 26, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass.
