Mrs. Wells was a Great Bend resident since 1940 coming from LaCrosse, Kansas.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  She was an avid walker, loved crossword puzzles, and current events.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

Married Norma Jean Gaunt August 10, 1945, at Great Bend, KS. She survives.
A graduate of the Wisconsin School of Banking, Mr. Kopke was a retired Installment Loan Officer of the Hutchinson National Bank. After retirement, he served as the president of Maize State Bank, Maize, KS, until 1998. He had also worked intermittently for Cook and Weber Funeral Home and Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.
Mr. Kopke served in the Army Air Corp 4132nd AAF Base Unit, as a Tech Sergeant B 17 navigator and radio operator during WWII. He was a member of the Elks Club, served on the Board of Boy Scouts of America, Masonic Lodge Exalted Ruler, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce serving as president in 1963, all of Hutchinson. He loved piloting his airplane, Glenn Miller 40’s music, trout fishing, gourmet cooking, Mayan culture, and his family. He also helped develop the WWII Memorial Museum, Stradbroke, England, and the B-29 Memorial Plaza, Great Bend.

            Frances J. Staab, age 84 years, longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident, passed away on Saturday evening, July 6, 2013 at the Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend.Frances was born on August 28, 1928 at Russell, Kansas to George J. and Olive Grace (Francis) Ehrlich.  She grew up in Russell, where she graduated from Russell High School.  She was united in marriage to Edwin A. Staab on November 5, 1946 at Russell, Kansas.  Over the years Frances worked as a Dispatcher for the Great Bend Police Department, was a Desk Clerk at the Best Western Angus Inn in Great Bend, worked in Central Supply at Central KansasMedical Center in Great Bend, and worked as a Greeter at Walmart in Dodge City, Kansas.  In earlier years she was a Cub Scout Pack Leader, was President of the PTA, and also coached Little League Baseball while her children were playing. She, along with her husband, was active in the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Eagles Club.  Frances was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend, Kansas, where she was a longtime member of the Altar Society.

Survivors include three sons:  Garry J. Staab of Grandbury, Texas, Larry E. Staab and Jerry L. Staab, both of Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Shelley A. (and her husband, Michael) Lewis of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; four grandchildren:  Ricky J. Staab and Aaron, Ryan, and Staci Lewis; three great-grandchildren; two sisters:  Judith V. Mullen of Thornton, Colorado and Doris D. Keller of Russell, Kansas.  Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin A. Staab on January 23, 1993, one brother (Richard D. Ehrlich), and one sister in infancy.

            Graveside Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Great Bend City Cemetery Mausoleum in Great Bend, Kansas with Father Ted Stoecklein officiating.
