She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, worked as a secretary for Geoff-Cartener Stock Exchange Office and Marlette Homes and retired after thirty-eight years as a medical secretary at the Central Kansas Medical Center Lab, all of Great Bend.

Ms. Arnall was a lifetime Great Bend, Kansas resident.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Wagon Wheel Canasta Club, and chairperson of the Great Bend Cemetery Board. She was past president of PTA and a room mother at Riley Elementary, was active in reunion planning for Great Bend High School Class of 1956, was an avid KU fan, and enjoyed her grandsons’ sports and activities.

He was a brakeman and conductor for Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad from 1948 until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Shaw was a longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident, living in Emporia and Lyons.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Merchant Marine. 

He was a member of American Legion, Emporia, Kansas; and United Transportation Union.  He enjoyed traveling around the world and spent much time in Scotland.

George L. Wiedemann

Burdett – George L. Wiedemann, 73, died June 21, 2013 at the Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita.

He was born November 7, 1939 at Burdett, the son of Fred G. and Laura Wiedemann. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/rancher.

He was of the Christian Faith. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the National Antique tractor and truck chapter, the National Wildlife Federation, served on the Pawnee Heights school board for fourteen years and was a former Golden Valley COOP board member.

On June 4, 1965 he married Dolores Y. Holt at Woodbury, TN. She passed away July 23, 2010.

Survivors include: a son, Todd Wiedemann and wife Gina, Maize; and two grandchildren, Jordan Wiedemann and Bryce Wiedemann both of Maize.

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with the pastor Chuck Marshall presiding. Visitation will be from 1p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Mortuary. Burial will be in the Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett with military graveside rites.

Judith A. Zook

Judy Zook photoJudith A. Zook, 72, passed away very peacefully on June 19th 2013, at her home in Zook, Ks surrounded by her family.

She was born July 16, 1940 in Lyons, KS, the daughter of Clyde William and Genevieve Mortimore Cutler.

Judy was very active helping her husband David with the farming and ranching operation in the Zook community, as well as, owning and operating, for 33 years, the Double “D” Western Store in Larned, KS. After retirement, Judy enjoyed attending her granddaughters’ activities, supporting the local 4-H youth and visiting her son Daniel.

On May 13th ,1972 she married D. David Zook at the Southwestern College Chapel, Winfield Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son Daniel Zook, Roanoke, TX, a daughter Debbie and husband Eli Makings and granddaughters Dava and Alea Makings, Larned, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father Melvin Houser.

            Georgia J. Crosley, age 75, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on Saturdayafternoon, June 15, 2013 at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend.  Georgia was born on June 1, 1938 at Mountain View, Arkansas to Harvey Andrew and Tolva Leona (Finch) Chatman, and had been a resident of Great Bend since 1992.  In addition to being a homemaker, Georgia provided In-Home Caregiver services for the past ten years to a number of individuals.  She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, and reading historical romance novels. Georgia dearly loved and collected windchimes and dreamcatchers. If she became your friend, she was your friend for life.

            Survivors include two sons:  Jason (and his wife, Janell) Crosley of O’Fallon, Missouri and Charles (and his wife, Jerrie) Chism of Great Bend, Kansas; four daughters:  Lebrina (and her husband, Bill) Haislip of Topeka, Kansas, Debra (and her husband, Mel) Knox of Mill Creek, Washington, Arlene (and her husband, Chris) Lamer of Wichita, Kansas and Erlene (and her husband, Scott) Halzle of Hudson, Kansas; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, one son (Edward Eugene Chism), two brothers (Otis and Edward Chatman), and one sister (Marie Trollinger).
