Mae married Robert John Weaver September 20, 1942 at Burlington, KS.  He died July 12, 2012.

A longtime Barton County Home Economist, Mrs. Weaver was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1950 coming from Manhattan, KS and Burlington, KS.

Mrs. Weaver was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Central Kansas Threadbenders Quilt Club, League of Women Voters, Great Bend Garden Club, H.R. Chapter of P.E.O., Bungalow F.C.E., and the Barton County Historical Society, all of Great Bend.  She was also active with the Coffey County Historical Society and the K.S.U. Alumni Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert John Weaver, D.V.M., brother, Edward Lee Kepler, and sister, Mary Emma Muscolino.

Gerald LeClair Phillips

Larned – Gerald LeClair Phillips, 77, died March 27, 2013 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

He was born January 15, 1936, at Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Blain Henry and Meriba June Meik Phillips. A lifetime area resident, he was a Special Education Teacher for Tri County Services for 20 years. He enjoyed reading, genealogy, art, collected coins and stamps, and liked classic books.

He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he was very active. He served in a church Mission in Uruguay, South America, served in the United States Army for 27 years, retiring as a CW3. He also served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award and was a big advocate for the Special Olympics.

On May 4, 1960, he married Maria Hilda Arriola Phillips at Salt Lake City, Utah. She survives.

CLAFLIN, Kan. — Jeanette Aileen Oliphant, 96, died March 24 2013, at Leawood, Kan. She was born November 28, 1916 at Claflin, Kan., to Walter L. and Emma (Schreiner) Larson. A lifelong Claflin resident, she was a 1934 graduate of Claflin High School. She married Charles E. Oliphant on March 9, 1950 in Salina, Kan. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1973.

Jeanette worked as a cashier for the Kansas Power Company in Great Bend, a bookkeeper and payroll clerk for the Claflin Flour Mills and attended air traffic controller school during World War II. She was a secretary in the Education Department at Barton County Community College from 1975 to 1986 and touched many lives teaching piano lessons for 46 years in Claflin.

She was a longtime member of the Claflin United Methodist Church, Celebration Community Church in Hays and attended Church of the Resurrection in Leawood. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Claflin, and was a past member of the Barton County Piano Teachers League. She loved music and playing the piano. She was an avid reader of Christian literature. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and serving and celebrating others, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Walker (Don Rosemann), Shawnee, Kan., and Debbie Ermoian (Kyle), Hays, Kan.; two granddaughters, Jessica Baum McGee (Matt), Marietta, Ga., and Lindsey Walker Rosemann (Scott), Prairie Village, Kan.; five grandsons, Jacob Baum, Portland, Ore., Lucas Walker, Lawrence, Kan., Joshua Baum, Tacoma, Wash., Devin Ermoian, Hays, Kan., and Taylor Ermoian, Hesston, Kan.; two great-granddaughters; and four great-grandsons.

Funeral services and Order of Eastern Star Service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday March 27, 2013 at Claflin United Methodist Church.  The Reverend Claudia Ricks Hubbard and Pastor Kyle Ermoian will officiate.  Burial will be in Claflin Cemetery.
