Glen D. Taylor

Larned – Glen D. Taylor, 80, departed this life on December 10, 2012 at his home, Larned.

 He was born May 20, 1932 at Garden City, the son of Thomas E. and Dorothy Patrick Taylor. A Larned resident since 2001 moving from Garden City; he was retired from being a Manager of Western Alfalfa Mills. His hobbies were building model airplanes and talking with his grandkids about airplanes. His grandkids were his biggest interest.

He was of the Baptist faith. 

On April 6, 1955 he married Donita Whorton in Raton, New Mexico. She survives. 

Other survivors include; two sons, Allen and wife Beverly and Terry and wife Teri, all of Larned; two brothers, Thomas and David, both of Florence, Oregon; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by; his parents, a brother, Larry; a sister, Aileen Roberts and a great grandson. 

Funeral service with Military Honors will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Margaret Gary presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the mortuary. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery at a later date.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

 

Sister Sibyllina Mueller, 81, died early Sunday morning, December 9, 2012, in the Dominican Sisters’ Convent Infirmary, Great Bend, Kan. Born January 10, 1931, in Wichita, Kan., as Theresa Susanne Mueller, Sister Sibyllina was the daughter of the late John and Sibylla (Ternes) Mueller. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community August 26, 1945, and pronounced her first vows June 10, 1948. She celebrated sixty years of religious profession in 2008.

 

Sister Sibyllina was a parochial grade school teacher of grades one through six from 1948 to 1964. After her education in speech pathology at Wichita State University she was a staff member of the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita and later an educational consultant in learning disabilities at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She began the Art of Learning Center in Great Bend, which later moved to Wichita, where she was director for more than 20 years. She retired to the motherhouse in Great Bend in 2006. Even after her retirement she aided elderly sisters with speech difficulties.

 

Sister Sibyllina is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Peace religious community and her sister, Lucy Jenks of Wichita, KS.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jarrod Lies as presider and Rev. Ken Van Haverbeke as homilist. Rev. Francis Oroffa MSP will also concelebrate. Cremation has taken place at Sister Sibyllina’s request and inurnment will follow the Mass in the Dominican Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery in Great Bend. A wake service will be held Wednesday, December 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the convent. The register book will be available to visitors from noon until  7 p.m.Wednesday, and before the funeral service on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the convent. Marie R. Stude

Garfield – Marie R. Stude, 92, died December 7, 2012 at the Medicalodges of Kinsley.

She was born September 30, 1920 near Garfield, the daughter of Alfred E. and Josephine Richard Stude. A lifetime area resident, she was a farmer.

She was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kinsley. She was a 1938 graduate from the Burdett High School. Her interests were
Paleontology, Archeology and Genealogy.

Survivors include; a brother, Alfred W. Stude, Wichita, two sisters, Genevieve Walker St. Charles, Missouri and Aldonna Mae Evans
Brentwood, Missouri, a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Bice, Wichita, three grandchildren, Lt Col Gregory Bice, Madison, Alabama, Carolyn
Chapman, Salina, Marsha Fischer, Wichita and eight great grandchildren and her beloved cat, Dottie.

She was preceded in death by; a son, Carl M. Bice Jr. and a daughter, Donita M. Brack.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Garfield Cemetery with Pastor Randy Jahnke presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield.

Mrs. Batman was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1940’s coming from Lexington, Mississippi.

She was lovingly known as “Memo,” Mrs. Batman had a variety of jobs, yet her true calling was raising and nurturing her children and their families.  She was the true matriarch of the family.  Her playful, witty, and jovial personality were the perfect match to her scratch-made comfort food.
