She married Paul E. Maneth August 1, 1964 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, Kansas.

A Great Bend, Kansas, resident for forty-seven years, Mrs. Maneth was a homemaker.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and Great Bend Garden Club.

In this world, Teddi’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, her friends, and her relationship with her God. She loved to bake cookies for the grandchildren on their birthdays and to spend time with them when she could.  Her love of flowers was one of her passions and she enjoyed sharing that passion with others. Those who knew her remember her for her smile even when her health made her life difficult.

Kenneth W. Hullett

Larned – Kenneth W. Hullett, 74, passed away October 9, 2012 at Great Bend Regional Hospital.

He was born June 11, 1938 in Larned the son of Ralph Calvin and Grace E. Mornhenwig Hullett. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was an area resident; he was the Service Manager for Al Hanken Motors, Larned. 

He was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Grace Community Church, Great Bend, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Larned and the Presidential Flight Detachment for the U.S. Army. 

On September 15, 1972 he married Rose Ella Geneva “Ginny” Phillips at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. She passed away October 24, 2001.

Other survivors include; three sons; Bill Tibbs, Wichita, Tony Hullett and wife Carol, Knoxville, TN, Ralph Hullett and wife Janice, Aurora, CO, three daughters; Linda Devers and husband Earl, Fredericksburg, VA, Mary Rincones and husband Sammy, Parker, CO, Barbara Froetschner and husband Robin, Great Bend; his companion Linda Richardson, Great Bend; two brothers, Clyde Hullett, Great Bend, Larry Jo Hullett, Hoisington ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by; two brothers, Harold Hullett and Edward Hullett. 

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Roy Savage presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Military Graveside Rites provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Gerald J. Basgall

Larned – Gerald J. Basgall, 69, died September 24, 2012 at the Hays Medical Center. 

He was born April 11, 1943 in La Crosse. The son of Everett and Eupharosenca Hartman Basgall; a resident of Larned since 1969, moving from La Crosse, he was an auto mechanic, did building maintance for USD 495 and was the part time animal control officer. 

He was of the Catholic Faith, he served on the Larned Fire and Rescue for 22 years and was a member of the Bowling Association of Larned. 

On April 1, 1967 he married Carol Foos at La Crosse where they lived with their two daughters until they later divorced. A life journey began with Joan L. Speed in April of 1981 and they later married on June 4, 1989 at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. She survives. 

Other survivors include; two daughters, Julie Moore and husband Craig, Leavenworth and Tara Basgall, Wichita; nine brothers; Ralph, Wichita, KS, LeRoy and wife Charlotte, Russell, KS, Melvin and wife Judy, Elk City, Ok, Virgil and wife Janet, Carson City, Nevada, Bobby and wife Donna, Wilson, KS, Ron and wife Patsy, Great Bend, KS, Raymond and wife Kathy, La Crosse, KS, Tony and wife Loretta, Brownell, KS, Daniel and wife Janice, McCracken, KS, a sister; Cathy Hoffman, Wichita, KS and one grandchild, Tyler Corcoran and his grandchildren of the heart; Joshua, Justin, Kyrsten Woods, Makenzie Harper, Jacob Simmons and a slew of nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by; his parents, a brother; Harry and a sister Mary Jane Basgall. 

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 13th at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday October 11th and Friday October 12th with the family present from 6-8pm at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery.

She was a home economics teacher for Unified School District 428 for twenty-eight years.

Mrs. Riegel was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1952.

She was a member of First Christian Church.  She loved to bake and make candy, travel to Colorado and go four-wheeling.

She was Manor Bakery department manager, worked for Clarke Printing Co., and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Smith was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1999 coming from Kansas City, MO.

Wanda and her husband, Bill, enjoyed the pursuit of a good garage sale.  She treasured her time with her children, grandchildren, and her dogs, Penny and Baby.  Above all, she had consistently placed other people’s needs ahead of her own, always giving of herself.

Jean D. Ward

Larned – Jean D. Ward, 91, passed peacefully on Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Colorado, where she had resided for the last five years.

Jean was born on June 2, 1921 in Plymouth, Kansas to Andrew James and Carrie Wood Drummond. She attended Elmdale schools and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Home Economics and received her teaching certificate from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas in 1943. While attending Kansas State, she was a member of Clovia Sorority, where she served a term as President.

On June 19, 1943, she married Wayne H. Ward in Emporia, Kansas. Wayne and Jean lived in Chase County until 1962 when the family moved to Larned, Kansas and started Ward Feed yard. Jean was active in her communities, including memberships in First United Methodist Church and PEO. She was a life and business partner with Wayne in the livestock and agriculture industry, along with being a homemaker. She was devoted to her family and had a lifelong love of music.

Jean was the loving mother of three children. She is survived by daughter, Virginia Braden and her fiancé, John Shackelford, of Austin, TX; son, Brian Ward and his wife, Diane, of Windsor, CO; and daughter, Mary Rankin and her husband, Randy, of Castle Rock, CO. Jean was a caring grandmother of her seven grandchildren, Jay Braden and Kate Braden Stein (Kevin) of TX, Ty Ward (Ashley), Ace Ward (Kellie), Sunny Ward Ranieri (Ted), Laura Rankin Matyszewski (Sebastian) and Colby Rankin (Paige) of Colorado. Jean was a loving great grandmother of seven great grandchildren, with an eighth due in December. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister and brother.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Larned, Kansas with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Friends may sign the register 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. The graveside service will follow in Elmdale, Kansas at 4:00 p.m.
