Wilbur “ Jim” Robinson

LARNED- Wilbur “ Jim” Robinson, 80, died August 15, 2012 at the Larned Healthcare Center, Larned. He was born October 25, 1931 at Larned, the son of Merne F. and Lola Belle Hager Robinson.

He was a lifetime resident of Larned, and was a retired employee of the City of Larned. He was of the Christian faith, liked to collect old model cars, walking, visiting family and friends, and watching old western movies.

Survivors include; three brothers, Keith, Larned, Bob, Wray, CO, and Elvin, Springfield, MO, three sisters, Peggy Martin, and Ruby Stevens, both of Larned, and Betty Dotson, Wichita, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by two brothers, Ervin and Elroy, and three sisters, Bessie Mantz, Donna Burn, and Dorothy Boltman.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 am Monday, at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Mark Slattery presiding. Friends may call at the mortuary from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Saturday, 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, and until service time Monday. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.

ALVENA L. SPANGENBERG

SHELL KNOB, Mo. — ALVENA L. SPANGENBERG, formerly from Great Bend, and Hudson, Kansas, was born July 28, 1947 in Salina, Kansas, daughter of Darold Ardale and Zelma Marie (Finn) Dodge, who preceded her in death.  She departed this life Monday, August 13, 2012 in her home in Shell Knob, Missouri, at the age of 65 years.

Alvena was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Parish.  She was an educator for 42 years, and a principal for 17 of those years.   She was a member and leader of the Professional Educators Organization (P.E.O.), Friends of Cheyenne Bottoms, the Greater Chamber of Commerce of Great Bend, Kansas, and Ourselves and Our Families Organization for battered women and children.

On September 11, 1970 Alvena was united in marriage with Kenneth Allen Spangenberg who survives her. She is also survived by her three children: Stephanie and husband Michael Simpson of Hesston, KS, Keegan Spangenberg of Denver, CO and Natalie and husband Yeqiang Wang of Topeka, KS; three grandchildren, Bradley Simpson, Morgan Simpson, and  Helena Wang; five sisters, Rae Marie and husband John Crisel of Zionville, IN, Cecilia and husband Floyd Smith of Newnan, GA, Elizabeth Ann and husband Jimmy Warren of Manhattan, KS, Clare and husband Erwin Rehme of Longmont, CO and Eileen and husband Mark Rinke of Lakeville, MI; in addition, several nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Visitation and vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 17 and a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 18 with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating, both will be at Prince of Peace Parish, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4100  Broadway in Great Bend, Kansas. Arthur Rudolph Koch

Arthur Rudolph Koch, 84, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Arthur was born on February 3, 1928, in a car near Ault, Colorado. He was the son of Philip and Caroline (Miller) Koch of Galatia, Kansas. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Doris Karst on June 11, 1950, in Milberger, Kansas. From this union Arthur and Doris were blessed with their son Kurtis. Doris preceded Arthur in death on June 2, 1990. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry Division and later in the Marine Corps Reserves. He resided in Russell, Kansas, for 20 years and worked in the oil fields before becoming an appliance technician for Deines Brothers Furniture. In 1975, he moved to Arvada, Colorado, and worked for GE as an appliance service technician until his retirement. He lived for a short time in Sun City, Arizona, before returning to Russell. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell and a lifelong member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 and the American Legion Post #99, both in Russell.

Arthurs is survived by his son Kurtis Koch and wife Debra of Great Bend, Kansas; two sisters Irene Ernst of Lebanon, Pennsylvania and Julia Koch Fraser of Fullerton, California; two grandsons Nathan Koch of Huntsville, Texas and Matthew Koch and fiancée Amber Dowson of Great Bend, Kansas; and his companion Mary Huffman.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Arthur’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell with military rites performed by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Visitation will be from 9A.M. to 8 P.M. Friday, August 17th with the family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday evening at the mortuary.
