She was a housekeeper and cook for Dr. Marion F. Russell, Sr. and Jr. families and Tom and Clu Taylor.

Mrs. Johnson was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1939 coming from Coweta, Oklahoma.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was an active member and involved in church functions. She loved to cook and entertain, her family, and God. She was passionate about helping others and was a wonderful friend to many.

Gwen N. Hipp

GWEN  N.  HIPP

 

            Gwen N. Hipp, age 64 years, of Hoisington, Kansas, passed away as a result of an automobile accident north of Great Bend, Kansas on Wednesday, July 11, 2012.  Gwen was born on August 17, 1947 at Hutchinson, Kansas to Byron Ray and M. Gladys (Brown) Glaze.  She moved with her family to Dodge City, Wichita, and Larned, Kansas, and graduated from Larned High School in 1966.  She then attended college at Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas for one year.  Gwen was united in marriage to Ernest L. Hipp on October 10, 1981 at Great Bend, Kansas, and lived in Great Bend and Pawnee Rock before moving to Hoisington about a year ago.  She was involved in 4-H with her children in their younger years, and enjoyed crafting, collecting frogs, driving, and spending time with her grandchildren.  Gwen was a member of the First Street Church of God in Hoisington, Kansas.

            Survivors include three sons:  W. Ray (and his wife, Kelly) Lang of N. Las Vegas, Nevada, Brian C. (and his wife, Brandy) Lang of Great Bend, Kansas and Joseph W. (and his wife, Melissa) Hipp of Hoisington, Kansas; one daughter, Mara K. (and her husband, Dustin) Mattheyer of Ellis, Kansas; nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers:  Eldon W. (and his wife, Kathy) Glaze of Larned, Kansas and Errol R. Glaze of Mirando City, Texas; nieces & nephews.  Gwen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ernest L. Hipp on July 31, 1990.

            Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the First Street Church of God in Hoisington, Kansas with Rev. OBITUARY INFORMATION
Married Mae Kepler September 20, 1942 at Burlington, Kansas.
He was a 1940 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1950 graduate of Kansas State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He was a self-employed veterinarian and was the first supervisor for western Kansas for the new Kansas Meat and Poultry Inspection Board for the Kansas Department of Agriculture, retiring after nineteen years of service.
Dr. Weaver was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1950 coming from Burlington and Manhattan, Kansas.
Dr. Weaver was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving with General Patton’s 45th Division and the French 2nd Armored Division. He was with the group who went through the concentration camp Dachau, the morning after the Allies liberated the camp. He retired as Major in the Army Reserves.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Argonne Post 180 where he was past commander, 60-year member and past president of Great Bend Kiwanis, Kansas State University Alumni Association, Barton County Historical Society and a past board member, Great Bend Cemetery Board, BPO Elks Lodge #1127, Reserve Officers Association, and Military Officers Association. He was also the national coordinator of the 250th Field Artillery Battalion Reunion Group.

Helene Schneck

Larned – Janice Helene Schneck, 81, passed away July 3, 2012 at the Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire.

 She was born March 13, 1931 in Great Bend, Kansas; the daughter of Donald J. and Ellen Quigley Younkin. A lifetime area resident; she was a Homemaker.

 She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Extension Homemakers Unit, all of Larned. She collected rocking horses, enjoyed painting and Genealogy.

 On August 18, 1949 she married Lawrence Schneck Jr. in Larned. He survives.

 Other survivors include; two sons; Gary Schneck and wife Patrice, Borger, Texas, David Schneck & wife Julie, Bettendorf, Iowa, a daughter; Cheryl Daniels and husband Robert, Wichita, a sister; Donna Atkeson and husband Dale, Haysville, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by; a sister, Carolee Vinson and a granddaughter.

 Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Larned with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Mortuary.

Larned – Bruce Douglas Weisensee, 61, died July 8, 2012, in Kinsley. 

He was born May 1, 1951, in Larned, the son of J.B. and Evelyn Elizabeth Gore Weisensee. He was a farmer. 

He was of the Christian Faith. 

Survivors include: a son, Todd Weisensee, Wichita; three daughters, Tina Stacey, Great Bend, Kandi Weisensee, Kansas City, Ks., Amber Gilliand, Poplar Bluff, Missouori; Step sons, Conrad Bates, Alden, Jay Bates, Macksville; a step daughter, Kali Bates, Kansas City, Ks.; a brother, Charles Weisensee, Rehoboth, Delaware; a sister, Judy Becker, Rehoboth, Delaware; twenty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

Graveside memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Larned Cemetery, with Father Mark Cowell presiding. Cremation has taken place and friends may sign the book from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Thursday with a Wake Service at 6 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. until service time Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned Inurnment will be at the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Military Graveside Rites provided by Fort Riley.
