He served during World War II as a pvt. 1st Class in the Army.
Clarence was a carpenter, working for several area contractors. He also operated a saw and blade sharpening
business.
He was a member of the First Church of God, Great Bend. He enjoyed blue grass music , attending blue grass festivals,
and playing his handcrafted dulcimer. He was passionate about wood working and was involved in many area projects.

She was a 1948 graduate of Holyrood High School.  She worked at Seitz Drug Store where she met Bill Hill.  They were married September 11, 1950 at Holyrood, Kansas.  Mary and Bill lived in Ellinwood for many years before moving to rural Ellis County, Kansas, in 1978.  They moved to Great Bend in1989.  Family and faith were important to Mary, who enjoyed organizing reunions for her extended family each summer and kept scrapbooks of family photos and news clippings of their accomplishments.  She also delighted in spending time with her high school classmates.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella.  She served funeral dinners at St. Rose as a part of the Altar Society and faithfully attended Mass each week.

Timothy Alan Parker

Larned – Timothy Alan Parker, 22, passed away June 20, 2012, Larned.

 He was born November 29, 1989 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, the son of Carl Eugene Parker and Michelle Lynn Naugle Lewis. A Larned resident for the past 9 years, moving from Utah; he worked for the Pawnee County Bridge and Highway Department.

 He was of the Christian Faith. He was in the Army National Guard, worked for the Larned EMS, was an Eagle Scout and coached little league baseball.

 On February 12, 2010 he married Bonnie Jo Harding at Great Bend. She survives.

 Other survivors include; his parents, Carl and Julie Parker, Larned, Michelle Lewis, Lindon, Utah and Ron Lewis, Orem, Utah, four sons Tristen, Treyton, Alex and Aldon, all of the home, Larned, a brother; Carl Raymond Parker, Larned, four sisters; Amy Rouse, Sarah Parker, both of Larned, Shannon Lewis, Andrea Lewis, both of Lindon, Utah, Grandparents; Phil and Cheryl Naugle, Colorado Springs, CO, Bill and Lynn Lange, Garfield, Mary Eatough, Salt Lake City, Utah, Stella Parker, Hutchinson and Great Grandmother; Virginia Naugle, Orem, Utah.

 He was preceded in death by; his Grandpa; Ray Parker.

 Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Chaplain Caleb McCary presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Army National Guard.

Mary Jane McFarren

Larned – Mary Jane McFarren 97, passed away June 18, 2012 at the Carriage House Manor Nursing Facility, Sulphur Springs, Texas.

 She was born April 14, 1915 in Kinsley, the daughter of Charles Robert and Bertha Viola McVey McFarren. A longtime Kinsley resident then moving to Larned in 1991 and later moving to Texas, she was a Bookkeeper for the local SRS office for 26 years.

 She was a member of the Church of Christ, a charter member of the Gamma Nu Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, a member of the Kinsley Extension Unit and the Royal Neighbors of America.

 Survivors include; a sister; Tuitti M. Fullerton, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, a niece; Cheryl Dodd, Sulphur Springs, Texas, three nephews; Dwayne Thorpe, Lakewood, Ohio, Charles McFarren and Rickey McFarren, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, seven great nieces, 3 great nephews, and great great nieces and nephew.

 She was preceded in death by; her parents, two brothers; Orlan Charles McFarren and Elmer McFarren, a sister; Helen Esther Thorpe, three brother – in – laws; Claude Thorpe, Fred Bolin, Hugh Fullerton, and a great great-nephew; Trenton Lee Faith II.

 Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, Larned with Pastor James Underwood presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned and 1:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church with the family present. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley.

He married Jane Olsen October 31, 1959 at Sparta, Wisconsin. 

Mr. Bemis was a lifetime Great Bend, Kansas resident, and was owner and operator of Bemis Construction, Inc.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as captain with the Army Corps of Engineers. 

Mr. Bemis was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Beta Theta Pi, ROTC at Kansas State University, Kansas Contractors Association, Association of Oklahoma General Contractors, Kansas Brick and Tile Board of Directors, Kansas State Board of Technical Engineers.
