Dennis E. Burger

Dennis E. Burger, 61, passed away June 18, 2012 at his home, Garfield.

He was born June 28, 1950 in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Glenn E. and LaDayne Deighton Burger. A lifetime area resident, he was an Irrigation Repairman and a Welder.

Survivors include; his longtime companion, Nancy Brown, Garfield; a son Darren Burger and wife Melissa, Wellston, Oklahoma; a daughter, Melane Brown, Andale; a brother Benny Burger and wife Gayla, Garfield; five
grandsons, Daniel Brown, Andrew Brown, Jared Brown all of Andale, Gabriel Burger and Nathaniel Burger, both of Wellston, Oklahoma; seven nieces and nephews; eighteen great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and sister-in-law, Kennith and Connie Burger.

A Celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at 10:00 A.M Wednesday at the Garfield Community Center. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Garfield Cemetery.

Gloria Dianne Youngdahl

Gloria Dianne Youngdahl, 68, died June 17, 2012, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

 She was born October 23, 1943, in Great Bend, the daughter of Glenn N. and Olive D. Smiley Johnson. She was a customer service representative in electronics.

 She belonged to the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Fellowship, PVCH Auxiliary, Santa Fe Sassies Red Hats, Garden Club, and was a Santa Fe Trail Center Volunteer, all of Larned.

 Survivors include: a brother, Robert G. Johnson, Alden, Minnesota; two sisters, Sherrill D. Sallee and Glenda L. Eye, both of Larned; Many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

 Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding. Visitations will be from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Ash Valley Cemetery, Ash Valley.

He worked for North American Salt of Lyons and was a truck driver for C and P Electric, Branson, Snell, and Builders Transport.

Mr. Fischer was a long time Great Bend, Kansas area resident.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam era.

He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Church, Hudson, and was a member of American Legion, Ellinwood.  He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying KU athletics, Washington Redskins, and Kansas City Royals.  He liked to waterski, jetski, and snow ski, and umpired many area softball games.  He will be remembered for his familiar, recognizable laugh.

He was a member of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.  He enjoyed golfing, traveling, hiking in the mountains, and being in Colorado in the fall.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, was a founding board member and current president of Kansas Oil and Gas Museum, Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association (KIOGA), Texas Longhorn Breeders Association President, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development board of directors, Knights of Columbus Council #862, and Elks Lodge #1127. He was a Barton County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy. He was recipient of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award in 2012.
