            Doris M. Amerine, age 88 years, of Great Bend, passed away at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend on Thursday evening, May 17, 2012.  Doris was born on November 7, 1923 at Great Bend, Kansas to Emery Blaine and Katie E. (Brocher) Burris.  A life-long resident of Barton County, she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1941 and was united in marriage to Maurice D. Amerine on April 11, 1942 at Great Bend.  Mr. Amerine preceded her in death on September 23, 1981.  Doris was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

            Survivors include two sons:  Martin D. (and his wife, Patti) Amerine and Gary W. (and his wife, Alice) Amerine, all of Great Bend, Kansas; two daughters:  Carol D. (and her husband, Pat) Moore of Hutchinson, Kansas and Linda K. (and her husband, Charlie) Harper of Wesley Chapel, Florida; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren;  three sisters-in-law:  Fae Amerine, Gladys Graham, and Joyce Burris; nieces and nephews.  Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son (Steven R. Amerine), one granddaughter (Emily Harper), and one great-grand-daughter (Misty Willadson).

He was a driller and roughneck for Duke Drilling and Pickrell Drilling.

He was a United States Army veteran.

Mr. Sigler was a Great Bend, Kansas resident most of his life.  He enjoyed playing softball, NASCAR, drag racing, helping people and spending time with his family and friends.  Most of all he loved working in the oilfield.

Reva Louise Ross

Larned – Reva Louise Ross, 94, died May 14, 2012, at the Presbyterian Manor, Topeka.

She was born June 18, 1917, in Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Eugene F. and Alice N. French Bloom. She was a wife, mother and homemaker.

She belonged to the Methodist Church, Pawnee Rock.

On April 21, 1934, she married Gerald Ross at Wakeeney. He died February 18, 1986.

Survivors include: three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Ross; a daughter, Diane Wurm; son –in-law, Joe Wurm; two sisters, Naida Siebert and Jean Volin; grandson, Jimmy Wurm.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, with Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel presiding. Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Married Frank Andrasek June 16, 1948 at Liebenthal, Kansas.  He died September 27, 1977.

She was a homemaker and also worked alongside her husband on the family farm near Oakley, Kansas.

Mrs. Andrasek was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1953 coming from Liebenthal, Kansas.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Great Bend.  She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and fishing and most of all her grandchildren, visiting with family and friends, and cooking for anyone who entered her home and on holidays.

Mrs. Burns was a Cadet Nurse during World War II. She was a 1946 graduate of the St. Rose School of Nursing.

Married Clarence J. Burns November 4, 1947 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, Kansas. 

She was an OB nurse at St. Rose Hospital and Central Kansas Medical Center helping hundreds of new mothers throughout her career.  She retired in 1991.  She was also a farm wife, working beside her husband, Clarence, on the family farm.

Mrs. Burns was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1943 coming from Quinter, Kansas.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Altar Society, Great Bend.

Peggy A. Stambaugh

Peggy A. Stambaugh

 

            Peggy A. Stambaugh, age 78 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend on Thursday afternoon, May 10, 2012.  Peggy was born on October 14, 1933 in rural Barton County, Kansas to August E. and Alice E. (Smith) Christiansen.  She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1951, and was united in marriage to Weston L. “Wes” Stambaugh on July 19, 1953 at Great Bend.  The couple made their home in Great Bend, and were former members of the Golden Belt Gem & Mineral Society and later the Wichita Gem & Mineral Society.  Her husband, Wes, passed away on January 21, 2004.  When her children were young, Peggy was a Cub Scout Leader and Campfire Girls Leader in addition to being a homemaker, and she also bowled on the Wednesday Night League in Great Bend for many years.  A long-time member of King United Methodist Church in Great Bend, she was also active in the United Methodist Women.  Peggy loved crocheting and various other crafts.

            Survivors include three sons:  Dale (and his wife, Jackie) Stambaugh of Muskegon, Michigan, Jerry (and his wife, Lisa) Stambaugh of Hoisington, Kansas and Jay (and his wife, Rachel) Stambaugh of Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Carol (and her husband, David) Keyse of Great Bend, Kansas; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; four brothers:  David (and his wife, Beverly) Christiansen of Great Bend, Kansas, Arthur (and his wife, Hanne) Christiansen of Colorado Springs, Colorado,  Bruce (and his wife, Lucie) Christiansen of Lebo, Kansas, and Jon (and his wife, Rosa) Christiansen of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters:  Sandy (and her husband, Joe) Brown of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Glenna Grant of Garden City, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.  Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Alice married Robert W. McDonald August 13, 1939, at Great Bend, KS.  He died May 24, 2009.

During WWII, while Robert served in the U.S. Army at Coffeyville Army Airfield, Coffeyville, KS, Alice held a civil service position on base.

She was later employed by U.S.D. 428 as an administrative secretary at Great Bend High School from 1968 until her retirement in 1986.

Mrs. McDonald was a lifetime resident of Great Bend, living in Emporia since 2010.

Alice was a member of the Central Baptist Church, Golden Sheaf Chapter of O.E.S., Cosmopolitan Study Club, Lake Barton Lady’s Golf Association, Community Concert Association, United Church Women, Girl Scouts, and many other community and church activities in the Great Bend area.  She was also a member of the Kansas Secretaries Association.
