After meeting Ruth McIlrath at the University of Kansas, Maurie and Ruth were married on November 25, 1945 at Great
Bend, KS. Ruth died July 14, 1982.
He worked in the insurance industry initially for McIlrath Insurance Agency and retiring from Thurman Morrison and
Associates.
Mr. Claassen was a longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident.
He was a WW II veteran and served in the U.S. Army.
Maurie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Argonne Post 180, and Rotary International,
all of Great Bend. He was also involved in various other civic, community, and city organizations, including serving on
the Great Bend City Council. Maurie was an avid K.U. Jayhawk fan, also enjoying R.V. travel, camping, and golf.

She was a 1940 graduate of Girls’ Catholic High School, Hays. She married William “Bill” Kuhn October 6, 1941 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, Kansas.  He died September 20, 1992. A Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1957 coming from Ellis, Kansas, Mrs. Kuhn was a homemaker.

Mrs. Kuhn was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar Society of which she was past president, a fifty-year member of Daughters of Isabella, election board, and former leader of Camp Fire.

In 1957, the family moved to Great Bend from Ellis, saying the move to Great Bend was the best move they ever made. She loved spending time with her family, and playing bridge, dominoes, pitch and pinochle.

He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving with the 73rd Bomb Wing, 500th Bomb Group, 20th Air Force. He came to Walker Army Air Force Base in Kansas from New York.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, throughout her life. She loved life and was an avid bridge player her entire life. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was always eager to be around them.

After graduating from Great Bend High School, she received her bachelor’s degree at UCO in Edmond, Oklahoma and later received her master’s degree at OU in Norman, Oklahoma. She worked as a flight attendant for Frontier Airlines and later moved to Oklahoma City where she met and married her beloved husband of thirty-seven years, Jim Pafford. Kathy taught in the Mid-Del school system for forty-three years and was passionate about her teaching, especially her work in AP, Close Up, OK Close Up, World’s Fair, and Senior Project. She was an avid gardener and her yard was always the envy of the neighborhood.

Married Lois Jean Wolf October 28, 1951 at Trinity Methodist Church, Russell, Kansas.
He was postmaster at the Raymond, Kansas Post Office for 31 years.
Mr. Starbuck was a Great Bend, Kansas resident for 35 years coming from Raymond, Kansas.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend.

He was a decorated Army Reserve Veteran of the Korean War, having previously served with the Army in the Pacific and the occupation of Japan during World War II. He was a Past Commander in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a more than sixty year member of the American Legion, and a long time Adjutant of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #27, Great Bend. In his youth, he was the first Eagle Scout of his troop and in later years served as Scoutmaster of that troop. He was a Past Master in the Masonic Lodge (Blue Lodge), Past Patron in the Eastern Star, was a member of the Shrine and had served on the local Shrine board.
