He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952-1956.

He was a salesman for Liggett, Myers, Pinkerton Tobacco Co.  Following his retirement, Mr. Marshall delivered the Hutchinson News to western Kansas, managed Marshall’s Pit-Stop Barbeque, helped at Young Auto Sales and went on wrecker calls with his son.

Mr. Marshall was a lifetime Barton and Pawnee County, Kansas, resident.

He was a life member of the NRA.

Ailsa Myrtle Morgan

Larned – Ailsa Myrtle Morgan, 92, passed away March 28, 2012 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born February 22, 1920 in Barton County, Kansas the daughter of George and Etta M. Hopkins Hofmaster. A lifetime Barton and Pawnee County resident, she was a homemaker, bookkeeper and an Aide at the Larned State Hospital.

She was of the Methodist faith, enjoyed sewing at the Welcome Inn and also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cross stitching and quilting.

On December 30, 1946 she married William D. Morgan at Great Bend.
He died October 4, 2001.

Survivors include; three sons, Dave and wife Karen, Derby, Verlin “Orley” and wife Donna Sue, Larned, Gale and wife Sharon, Racine, Wisconsin, seven grandchildren and Baxter the Cat.

She was preceded in death by; two brothers, Harold Hofmaster and Harley Hofmaster and a sister; Donna Doyle.

Memorial graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Great Bend, with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Inurnment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Great Bend.

Mary Alice Stegman

Mary Alice Stegman, 86, died March 25, 2012, at Hospice of Reno County, Hutchinson.

She was born October 18, 1925 at Burdett, the daughter of Dewey and Elizabeth Anne Browne Fagen.  A resident of Larned since 2004 formerly of Bellevue, Washington, she was a homemaker.

She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned.

On October 18, 1949, she married Paul W. Stegman at Burdett.  He died May 30, 2007. 

Survivors include, two sons, Joseph, Thousand Oaks, California, and Thomas, Maple Valley, Washington, three daughters, Libby Julian, Garnett, Paula Ann Stegman, Pasco, Washington and Rebecca Cain, Burdett. 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by a two sisters, Ella VanMeter and Barbara Olsen.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Morell Funeral Home, Larned.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding.  Friend may call from Noon until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett.

She was a 1951 graduate of Hoisington High School.

Married Louis P. Schauf September 30, 1952 at Beaver, Kansas.  He died December 26, 1981.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, Great Bend; St. Joseph Altar Society and Extension Homemakers Unit, Beaver; and was formerly a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beaver, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.

Magdalene and Louis moved to Cawker City in 1957 and resided in Mitchell County until 1969 when the family moved back to the Nick Schauf homestead. She moved to Great Bend 1990, where she resided until moving to the Cedars Retirement Center in August 2011.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts, as well as traveling in her later years.
