(Combest) Engle. Memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Great Bend. The Reverends William F. Johnson and Fred Kirkpatrick will officiate. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the church parlor. Lenora L. Hogsett

Lenora L. Hogsett, 94, died March 12, 2012 at Larned Healthcare Center, Larned.

She was born October 3, 1917, at Delphos, the daughter of Charles A. and Elmedia L. Marcey Boatwright.  A resident of Larned since 1990, previously of Ness City and Towner, she was a retired Morning Charge Cook at the Larned State Hospital.

She belonged to Church of Christ, Larned.

She married Melvin H. Hogsett, June 12, 1944 at Gentry, Arkansas.  He died December 28, 1995.

Survivors include adopted daughter, Stella Parker, Hutchinson, four grandchildren, Marilyn Chism, Kenneth Parker, Carl Parker and Gary Parker, two nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Newton Boatwright, Alonzo Boatwright, Melford Boatwright and Chris Edward Boatwright, and siters, Delma J. Wilbur and Velma Boatwright.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding.

   Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned. Burial will be in the Ness City Cemetery, Ness City.

David Kenneth Patterson

David Kenneth Patterson, 50, died at his home in Larned.

He was born July 14, 1961, at Larned, the son of Harold E. and Carol Jean Ellis Patterson.  A resident of Larned, he worked for the City of Rozel as maintenance man for 10 years, he worked for Stevens Transport over the road trucking for 3 years and was presently working at Dillons in Larned as a Meat Clerk.

He belonged to the United Methodist Church, Rozel.

On November 16, 1985, he married Kathy Ann Hayes, at Rozel.  She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Brittany and husband Josh Detherage, Larned, mother, Carol J. Patterson, Rozel, granddaughter, Courtney Detherage, and two sisters, Angela and husband Mike McThomas, Andover, New Jersey and Tamara Patterson, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his father and a son, Shawn Valentine.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and form 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.  Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.

Arlene E. Reece

Arlene E. Reece, 87, died March 9, 2012, after a short battle with cancer, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born November 20, 1924 at Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Frank G. and Carrie Unruh.  A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, she was a retired homemaker.

She belonged to United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Burdett Seniors and Shiley Homemakers all of Burdett. 

On August 14, 1946, she married Charles Reece Jr. at Pawnee Rock.  He died March 3, 1994.

Survivors include, four sons, Leland and wife Linda, Colorado Springs, Lyle and wife Teresa, Rozel, Kevin and wife Marsha, Larned and Kent and wife Annette, Burdett, one sister, Eldora Schwarz, Halstead, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Unruh.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 12, at United Methodist Church, Burdett, with Pastor Brad McCoy and Pastor Mitch Reece presiding.  Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned.  Burial will be in the Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett.

OBITUARY INFORMATION
Mr. Bates married Phyllis Kolterman November 2, 1952, in Topeka, KS. They were later divorced.
He then married Neoma L. (Dennis) Williams November 8, 1975, in Great Bend, KS. She survives.
Mr. Bates had been a Great Bend, Kansas, resident since 1953 coming from Topeka, KS.

He was a graduate of the Boston University School of Law and was an attorney having practiced in the Great Bend area for over 60 years, and served as Probate Judge, Municipal Judge, and Assistant County Attorney. He served our country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force for about ten years including World War II and during the Korean Conflict. That service was as the Navigator of a B-17 crew and training bomber crews at Forbes Air Force Base in Kansas during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bates was involved in the Unification of the Great Bend School District No. 1 and No. 7. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Great Bend, where he held many Church offices and led four Disciple Classes. He served as the USD 428 Board attorney for almost 30 years. He assisted with the organization of the Barton County Community College and was the Community College Board Attorney for ten years. He helped organize the USD 428 Foundation. He has been an active VFW and American Legion member. He served a term as Post Commander of the American Legion Post. He has a long history of membership in the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors. During the Mayorship of H.C. Davis, he served on the Great Bend Arts Council.

In the early 1960’s he assisted with a reorganization of the United Way. He helped guide the development of the Barton County Mental Health Association. He also volunteered as a member of the Retired Senior Volunteers Corps. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Great Bend, in which he served as President, Board of Directors, District Lt. Governor, on many committees, and was the recipient of the club sponsored “Making Great Bend Greater” award. He was an avid K.U. Jayhawks and Boston Red Sox fan, and enjoyed golf.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

KIMBALL, Neb. — Ronald Eldon “Ronnie” Revel, 79, died March 1, 2012 at Kimball Health Services, Kimball, Neb. He was born June 8, 1932 at Lyons, Kan., the son of William and Julia (Gockstetter) Revel. He lived and attended school in Chase, Kan. He married Evelyn Bennett in 1955 at Kimball. He was employed for Flint Rig Company and the Cannons. He later worked for the Union-Pacific Railroad in 1969 and retired in
1992.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn, Kimball; three daughters: Shevawn Clough, Kimball; Charise Bohac, Kimball; and Shannet Green, Golden, Colo.; one step-daughter, Laura Dunbar, Richmond, Virginia; two brothers: Willis Revel and his wife Florence, Longmont, Colo.; and Stanley Revel and his wife Louise, Phoenix, Ore.; one sister, Elaine Pugh, Great Bend; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Donnie; two brothers, Wade Revel and Glenn Revel; one sister, Bonnie; and one great-granddaughter, Americus Dawn Bohac. Memorial services were held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Church of Christ, Kimball. Memorials may be given to the family. Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, is in charge of local arrangements.
