Marilyn May Phemister

Larned

Marilyn May Phemister, 78, died January 19, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

She was born May 23, 1933 at Aledo, Illinois the daughter of Paul E. and Margaret Litzenberger Black.  A longtime resident of Larned, she was a retired Elementary School Teacher. 

On February 18, 1974, she married Charles L. Phemister in California.  He survives.

Other survivors include, one brother, Ronald Black, Snohomish, Washington, nephews, Brad Tew, William Black and Robert Black.                                                 

Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Morell Funeral Home.  Burial was in the Mennonite Cemetery, Hanston.

Ruby D. Pinkston

St. John – Ruby D. Pinkston, 81, died February 18, 2012 at her home.

She was born June 30, 1930 in Artesian, South Dakota. The daughter of Walter and Dorthy Gus May; she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Radium Rangers Senior Citizens Club.

On December 20, 1952 she married Milton D (Bud). Pinkston at Pensacola, Florida. He survives.

Other survivors include; a son Chris and wife Pennie, St. John, three daughters, Robyn Hall and husband Matt, Garfield, Julie Wilson and husband Tim, Prineville, Oregon and Kellie Begler and husband Robert,
Ellis. A sister, Eleanor Shoemaker and husband Dick, Bennett, Colorado, four grandchildren, Randi Turner, Kiley Hamor, Tiffany Dick and Jason Pinkston, and eight great grandchildren, Micah Dick, Kaitlyn Dick, Jaidyn
Pinkston, Grady Pinkston, Keirsten Pinkston, Leah Pinkston, Hayden Turner and Landyn Nichols.

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Rev. Jerry Hodges presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Mortuary.
The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in the Point View Cemetery, Radium with Military Graveside Rites provided by the United States Navy.

Helen M. Brown

Larned – Helen M. Brown, 92, died February 19, 2012 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born June 2, 1919 in Pawnee County, Kansas; the daughter of Ira Gilbert and Clara S. Fenton Rainbolt. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned and the VFW Auxiliary in Niland, California.

On July 19, 1938 she married Wayne Oliver Brown in Jetmore, Kansas. He passed away April 13, 1995.

Survivors include; Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by; three brothers, Bill Rainbolt, Alfred Rainbolt, Harold Rainbolt and a sister; Viola Lynam.

Cremation has taken place and Inurnment will be in the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, Kansas.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

Barbara J. McPherson, 81, died February 18, 2012 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kan. Born January 12, 1931 at Fort Wayne, Ind., she was the daughter of Arthur and Vada Wasson. She was a 1954 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Nursing. On March 25, 1951, she married Brock R. McPherson at Arkansas City, Kan. She served as Executive Director and Instructor for the Association for Continuing Education, Great Bend, an educational consortium of several hospitals in central Kansas. In addition, she has also served as an instructor through Barton County Community College and Dodge City Community College presenting in-service education for twenty-five long-term care facilities in and around Great Bend.

Barbara was involved with a number of professional organizations and activities. She served on the Kansas State Nurses Association as president and District 7 board member. She served on the Kansas Association of Hospital Educator Coordinators and also served as president. Additionally, she has served on the Barton County Health Fair Board, the Kansas Organization of Nurse Leaders, and the KNAP Board. In 1991, the Governor of the State of Kansas appointed Barbara to the Kansas State Board of Nursing, serving until 1995 and was president for two years.

Besides her other activities, she was involved with community organizations and activities. She was active in the League of Women Voters of Great Bend. She chaired the Local Health Study of Barton County and published a book identifying all health-related resources available to the public. She also served on the boards of Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, Golden Belt Community Concert Association, and Unified School District #428, Great Bend. Mrs. McPherson was also active as Cub Scout Den Mother, Democratic Committeewoman, secretary for Women’s Democratic Clubs of Kansas, Hi Steppers EHU, Panther Booster Club, United Funds, Diabetes Association, Heart Fund, Cancer Fund, March of Dimes, Business and Professional Women, Pilot Club, Vintage Wheels, Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, and South Central Director of Jaguar Club of North America.

Survivors include her husband, Brock R. McPherson, of the home; four sons: Brad R. McPherson and his wife Suzanne, Van Buren, Ark.; Brit R. McPherson and his wife Denise, Weatherby Lake, Mo.; Blair R. McPherson and his wife Teresa, Hays, Kan.; and Boyd R. McPherson and his wife Lisa, Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren: Melanie Baker, Brice McPherson, Kelsie Norwood, David McPherson, Courtney McPherson, Emily McPherson, Hugh McPherson, and Baylor McPherson; and four great-grandchildren: Parker McPherson, Daniel Norwood, Jr., Brooke Norwood, and Benjamin Norwood. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon McPherson.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend. The Reverend Tom Sheldon will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. She was a social worker for Barton County Welfare Department for many years. Jim and Lila later owned and operated the Bay Ridge Resort, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

Mrs. Fuller was a Great Bend, Kansas resident most of her life.

Elsie Mae Pickerill

Elsie Mae Pickerill, age 69 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at the Minneola Long Term Care Center in Minneola, Kansas on Monday afternoon, February 13, 2012.  Elsie was born on September 12, 1942 at Ellsworth, Kansas to John and Mildred (Mills) Ploutz, and graduated from Ellsworth High School.  On September 5th, 1964 she was united in marriage to Gary Pickerill at Great Bend, where the couple made their home.  One of Elsie’s favorite activities was watching KU basketball.

            Survivors include her husband, Gary Pickerill of Great Bend; one son, Jeffery Pickerill of Olathe, Kansas and one daughter, Sandra (and her husband, Bryan) Burgess of Minneola, Kansas; two granddaughters, Victoria and Elizabeth Burgess; twenty-four nieces and nephews and their families.  Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (John, Howard, and Harold Ploutz), and two sisters (Thelma Hurst and Viola Nily).

            It was Elsie’s wishes that her body be donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center after her death.  A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas.  There will be no viewing or visitation.  The family requests that memorials be directed to the Great Bend Relay for Life.  A complete obituary may be read and condolences may be left for the family online athttps://www.charterfunerals.com/obituary/chgb.
