Baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert.

1963 Graduate of Otis High School.

Received a degree in Home Economics from Kansas State University in 1967.

Married to Jim Essmiller in June 1968 at Peace Lutheran in Albert, later divorced.

She worked as a manager for Wal -Mart and more recently for USD 428 as a special education teacher.

Ms. Essmiller grew-up in Rush County, Kansas and had been a longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident.

Active member of Trinity Lutheran Church – especially in women’s groups and church leadership.

Sandy was a long-time square dancer and had a life-time love for quilting and sewing.

Sandy found her greatest joy being a Grandma, spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow

Maxine Elizabeth Scheuerman

Maxine Elizabeth Scheuerman, age 88, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Rush County Memorial Hospital-Long Term Care Unit in LaCrosse, Kansas. She was born February 24, 1923 at Beaver, Kansas the daughter of Peter E. and Alice Mae (Stoskopf) Bergman.

Maxine attended school at Galatia Grade School and graduated from Hoisington High School. She then attended Fort Hays State University. She taught at country schools in Barton and Rush County and later became a certified nurse’s aide. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis and A.L.C.W.

On March 21, 1943 she married Aaron Scheuerman at Otis, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2010.

Survivors include three sons: Carl A. Scheuerman of Benton City, Washington, Michael A. Scheuerman of Garnett, Kansas, Alan E. Scheuerman of Russell, Kansas; one daughter Susan M. Newsome of Great Bend, Kansas; one brother: John W. Bergman of Osborne, Kansas; two half brothers: Paul E. Bergman of Hoisington, Kansas, Dean Bergman of Lincoln, Nebraska; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Corey Scheuerman; great-grandson Roberto Jorge Rojas and half brother Robert Bergman.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis, with Pastor Patricia Reep officiating. Interment will follow at Otis Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm with family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Trevor Leroy Pelster-Owens, 1 day, died October 4, 2011 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born October 3, 2011 at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Trenton Scott Owens and Tahcoa Renae Pelster.

Survivors include his father, Trenton Scott Owens, of the home; his mother, Tahcoa Renae Pelster, of the home; paternal grandmother, Kathryn Owens, Great Bend; paternal great-grandmother, Bonnie Cutrano, Hutchinson, Kansas; paternal great-great-grandmother, Bertille Herrman, Great Bend; maternal grandmother, Frankie Pelster, Great Bend; maternal great-grandmother, Dee Pelster, Great Bend; maternal great-grandparents, Rex and Debbie Cunningham, Alva, Oklahoma; maternal great-great-grandmother, Shirley Cunningham, Cherokee, Oklahoma; paternal twin uncles, Bryson Owens and Braydon Owens, both of Great Bend; and maternal uncle, Sebastian Pelster and fiancee Meagan Barlow, Alva. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Rob Pelster; and paternal great-uncle, Eugene Herrman.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Great Bend Cemetery. Father Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Trevor Pelster-Owens Funeral Expense Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Christine Beakey

Christine Beakey, 87, died October 4, 2011, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born March 16, 1924, at Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur Louis “Red” and Isabella (Schwager) Beakey. She was a 1941 graduate of Great Bend High School. She was a welder during World War II and later was a bookkeeper for Jule’s Glass Company and the Barton County Treasurer’s Office. Miss Beakey was a Great Bend resident since 1932, coming from Chicago.

Miss Beakey was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Argonne Post 180 Auxiliary, and was past District Seven Legion Auxiliary president.

Survivors include two sisters: Ruth Piltz, Denver, Colorado; and Marian Call, Great Bend; and one brother, Augustine James “Jim” Beakey, Adolphus, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Beakey; one sister, Stella Devine; and one nephew, Augustine James “Bimbo” Beakey.

Altar Society Rosary will be at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2011 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Father Don Bedore will be celebrant. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Bradley Livingston Kasper

Bradley Livingston Kasper, 33, died October 3, 2011 a his home, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born September 8, 1978 at Hutchinson, Kansas. He married Evelyn Barnett December 15, 2008 at Hoisington. He worked for D & S Casing and Murray Casing Crews. He was a Hoisington for three years, coming from Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Kasper, of the home; his father, Mark McVey; his mother, Jeanne Gibbs, Arizona; adoptive parents, Bob and Helen Borrowman, Hutchinson; one son, Bradley Borrowman, North Carolina; two daughters: Pennie Adams, Great Bend; and Raven Means, Hutchinson; two brothers: Jason Goss, Great Bend; and Josh Goss, Hutchinson; two step-sons: Blake Newsome and Aaron Newsome, both of Great Bend; one step-daughter, Taylor Newsome, Great Bend; and several step and half sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Bradley Kasper Expense Fund, in care of the funeral home.
