Lawrence Nicholas Liebl

Dateline – Claflin 

Lawrence Nicholas Liebl, 97, died January 28, 2019, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.  He was born October 14, 1921, at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Frances (Schulte) Liebl.

Lawrence went to school and graduated from Claflin High School in 1940. Lawrence went off to college at Kansas State University in the fall of 1940 for one year, majoring in Business and Public Administration before being drafted in the United States Army. He served from September 1942 till his honorable discharge in March 1946, where served as a medical technician and clerk.

On April 26, 1949, he married Mary Ann Kimpler at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church near Ellinwood.  She died August 2, 1998.

Shortly after getting married they moved to Stratton, Colorado. They lived there for two years before coming back to the family farm near Claflin.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #2630 of Odin, and the V.F.W., starting in Claflin and then continuing in Ellinwood.

Survivors include; children, Ken Liebl of Claflin, Carol (Rich) Steiner of Great Bend, Larry (Marcie) Liebl, Kevin (Nancy) Liebl, Todd (Carla)Liebl, all of Claflin; grandchildren, Tammy (Matt) Troyer, Chad (Sarah) Liebl, Ryan (Katherine) Liebl, Clint (Sari) Steiner, Kristin Liebl, Cindy (Justin) Keller, Jeremy (Angie) Liebl, Eric Liebl, Frank (Tara) Steiner, Jared (Kacie) Liebl, Scott Liebl, Travis Liebl, Corey Liebl, Adam (Gina) Liebl, Courtney Liebl, Evan Liebl, Jamie Liebl, and Brett Liebl; and great grandchildren, Haley and Kiley Troyer, Savannah and Spencer Steiner, Gavin and Garett Keller, Lexi and Drew Steiner, Lauren and Claire Liebl, Matthew, Olivia, Levi, and William Liebl, Konner, Alex, and Emma Hickel, Kendall Liebl, Brady, Brynlie, Bryson, Blakeley, and Baylor Liebl.

He was preceded in death by his wife, infant son, Michael Paul Liebl; brothers, Frank, Leo, Ambrose, Joseph, and Gail Liebl; and sisters, Viola Feist and Theresa Miller.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Vigil and Rosary will be 5 p.m., Friday, and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019, all at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.

Ray Navarro

PAWNEE ROCK – Ray Navarro, 84, passed away January 29, 2019 at his home in Pawnee Rock. He was born April 14, 1934 in Waco, Texas to Rozario and Yanacia (Castro) Navarro. He married Betty Kelly, September 7, 1963 at Oak Grove, Louisiana.  She passed away September 8, 1993.

A lifetime Pawnee Rock resident, he was a driller and roughneck in the oilfield, having worked for Mallard Drilling until he retired in 1997. He loved to fish, garden, cook and tinkered with everything. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  He was a self-taught man who loved to teach everyone what he could. He did so with great patience and passion.

Survivors include, four sons, Kelly Cozby and wife Suzi of Wasilla, Alaska, Roy Cooper and wife Madalyn of Bangor, Maine, Carroll Cooper of Arkansas and Johnny Gulley of Oak Grove, Louisiana; three daughters, Rayetta Crist and husband Ed of Great Bend, Karen Hoffman of Wasilla, Alaska and Kathy Wilson and husband Carlton of Deer Park, Texas; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Navarro; a grandson, Trevis Smith; six brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019, with Pastor Curt Reinhardt presiding at the Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock. Memorials are suggested to Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Mildred A. Brauer

Mildred A. Brauer, 101, La Crosse, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Mrs. Brauer was born December 15, 1917, in Rozel, Kansas, the daughter of Henry W. and Katherine B. (Both) Ideker.  She was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, since 1977, moving there from Albert, Kansas.  A 1936 graduate of Rozel High School, Rozel, Kansas, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

On January 4, 1942, she married Warren “Jack” Price at Tacoma, Washington.  He preceded her in death November 12, 1943, while serving with the United States Army in the North Africa area during World War II.

On January 25, 1948, she married Paul J.  Brauer at the First Christian Church, Larned, Kansas.  He preceded her in death February 28, 2007.

Survivors include:  one son, Dennis R. Brauer, Dodge City, Kansas; two daughters, Norma J. Edwards, La Crosse, Kansas, and Sharon F. McKown, Hutchinson, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Clarence Grover, Nebraska, Kimberly Corsair, La Crosse, Kansas, Jordon Schneider, Hays, Kansas, Chelsey McCarroll, Bentley, Kansas, Brenda Grant, Winfield, Kansas, Krissondra Rydzel, Kansas City, Missouri, and Alicia Boor, Hoisington, Kansas; ten great grandchildren, Jacob Grover, Kelsey Grover, Cody Grover, Jorja Grover, Wyatt Corsair, Chance Corsair, Kylie McCarroll, Trinity McCarroll, Connor Boor, and Declan Rydzel; and one brother Lester H. Ideker, La Crosse, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one daughter in law, Rosa Brauer; one brother Vernon F. Ideker; one infant brother, Velmer H. Ideker; and two sisters, Evelyn F. Blattner, and Rosella A. Smith.

Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2019, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Church visitation will be Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Phyllis Burdge officiating.

Interment will be Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 3:00 P.M. in Christ the King Lutheran Cemetery, Dodge City, Kansas.

Everette J. “Dobber” Partridge

GREAT BEND – Everette J. “Dobber” Partridge, 87, passed away January 23, 2019 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born June 4, 1931 to Floyd Ray & Hazel Viola (Heitz) Partridge. He married Ierene Lepej June 4, 1950 at Great Bend, Kansas.  She died June 21, 2005.

A Great Bend resident for most of his life, Everette was the owner of Estes Trash Service for 21 years and also worked for J.C. McIntire Lumber Yard for 9 years and in the Fuller Brush chemical department for 19 years. He raised greyhounds and loved to hunt, fish, bowl, play softball, bingo, cards and dominos. He was a member of the Eagles and a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include, a son, Larry Partridge of Great Bend; three daughters, Sandra Kagle of Galva, Sharon White of Great Bend and Susan Smith and husband Gene of Wichita Falls; one sister, Evelyn Cosby of LaCrosse; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hazel Partridge; his wife, Ierene Partridge; a brother, Russell Partridge; and two sisters, Viola Eychener and Darlene Geer.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 27, 2019, with family present at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2019 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery following the service. Glenna Marie Bone

SHELBY, IOWA – Glenna Marie Bone, died on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-eight years, eight months and seventeen days. She was the daughter of William Delmer and Gladys Marie (Howard) Hoberecht, born on May 3, 1930 in Newton, Kansas. She was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church and attended school in Great Bend, graduating from Great Bend High School with the class of 1948. She was also a member of the Eastern Star in Great Bend.

On July 11, 1948, Glenna was united in marriage to James Arthur (Art) Bone at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend. To this union three children were born: Bill, Suzette and Colette. Glenna worked keeping books for her dad at his company, Ace Pipe Pulling and also worked for other oil companies for several years.

In 1969 the family moved to Shelby, Iowa. After the death of Art on December 10, 1970, Glenna remained in Shelby for a few years before moving to Council Bluffs and began work for Archer Petroleum in Omaha. In 1981 she moved to Bremerton, Washington where she did clerical work for Bangor Submarine Base Fire Department.

Upon her retirement, Glenna worked at a local Walmart as a greeter and was affectionately called “Granny”. In 2003, Glenna returned to Shelby to be with her family during her grandson’s illness. She had a very infectious smile that brightened many lives. Glenna was very active in whatever church she belonged to from Kansas to Washington state and Shelby and Harlan, Iowa. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle with her friends in Shelby. She was always busy in her gardens from spring to fall.

She is survived by her daughters, Suzette Bone of Suquamish, Washington and Colette and her husband Bob Plagman of Shelby, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; her siblings: Russell Hoberecht and his wife Wanda of Great Bend, Kansas; Leland Hoberecht and his wife Dott of Derby, Kansas; Thelma and her husband Sol Buettgenbach of Hutchinson, Kansas and Donald Hoberecht and his wife Virginia of Wichita, Kansas; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Glenna was preceded in death by her son Bill, grandson Randy Plagman and son-in-law Rick Reynolds.

Services were held in Harlan, Iowa on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Funeral Service held at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation, with Pastor Marshall Hoberecht presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.

Alois L. “Al” Wondra

Dateline – Odin 

Alois L. “Al” Wondra, 79, died January 22, 2019, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.  He was born February 11, 1939, on the farm, in rural Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Joseph K. and Agnes (Debes) Wondra.

Alois graduated from Odin High School in 1957. He then served in the Army from 1958 to 1959. He was a farmer while also working full time at Marlette Homes and then Fuller Brush.

Alois was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2630.

Survivors include: brothers, Art Wondra and wife Mary Ann, and Jerry Wondra and wife Kay all of Great Bend; sisters, Margaret White of Great Bend, Rita Legleiter and husband Cletus of St. Marys, and Jeanie Hapes and husband Elbie of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Thomas Wondra, brother, Bob Wondra and wife Betty, infant sister, Alice Wondra, and sisters, SR. Edith Wondra, Cecilia Schneweis and husband Lawrence, and Mary Ann Collins and husband Jim.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, celebrated by Father Terrence Klein. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

Sandy Beyer

Dateline: Encinitas, California

Sandy Beyer, 64, passed away December 17, 2018 at her home. She was born January 2, 1954 at Hays to Elmer J. and Bertille (Meier) Herrman.

Previously from Great Bend and Wichita, she was an Encinitas, California resident. She was of the Catholic faith and a previous member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She was an Assistant Manager for Wal-mart. Sandra loved to read, garden and spend time with her family.

Survivors include, two sons, Shawn Beyer and Carissa, Kent Beyer and Mallory, all of Encinitas, California; mother, Bertille “Berdy” Herrman; one brother, Neal J. Herrman and Faye of Great Bend; one sister, Rebecca J. Desmarteau and Mike of Gardner, Kansas; four grandchildren, Hana and Owen Beyer, Virginia and Westley Beyer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer J. Herrman; a brother, Eugene J. Herrman; and a sister, Bonnie Cutrano.

There will be a visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by a rosary, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Ted Stoecklein presiding. Inurnment will take place at the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the A.L.S. Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Willard Behrle

Dateline: Hoisington, Kansas

HOISINGTON — Willard “Scott” the “Mountain Man” Behrle, 58, passed away January 17, 2019, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.  He was born April 22, 1960, at Anthony, to Wilburt and Hazel (Bemis) Behrle.

Scott, a resident of Hoisington since 2012 coming from Kinsley, was a self-employed arborist, previously working at Scholfield Mill Right, Dodge City. He was a member of the First Street Church of God, Hoisington, and enjoyed building hot rods.

He was previously married to Corinne Bright, of Tonkawa, OK, and Anita Watkins of Kinsley.  Other survivors include two daughters, Melissa Hipp and husband Joe, and Jennifer Behrle-Rhodes and husband Richard, all of Hoisington; one step daughter, Valerie Schroth and husband Josh, of Blue Springs, MO; two sisters, Diana Glaze, of Otis, and Liz Hull Cotton of Pueblo, CO; seven grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, at First Street Church of God in Hoisington with Rev. Dick Ogle. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington, KS  67544.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Scott Behrle Expense Fund, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Judith Joléne Ward

Oklahoma City – Judith Joléne Ward, 80, passed away January 19, 2019, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. She was born June 11, 1938, in Great Bend, the daughter of John and Mildred (Unruh) Dodd.

Joléne attended high school in Great Bend, where she met her husband, Harold Roger Ward, and were united in marriage October 7, 1956, in Pawnee Rock. In 1980, Jolene and Harold relocated to Oklahoma City.  Joléne and Harold enjoyed 60 years together, until he passed away January 8, 2016. She was a member of the Crossover Church in Oklahoma City. Her hobbies included playing the organ and piano, and sewing.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Ward and wife Valeta, and Brett Ward and wife Kathleen, all of St. John; one daughter, Chana Scantlin and husband Harold of Oklahoma City; one brother, Richard Dodd and wife Yvonne of Missouri; one sister, Nyla Hefling and husband Rick of Missouri;  ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m., Friday January 25, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home with Rev Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery.

Memorials have been designated to Crossover Church, Oklahoma City, in care of Bryant Funeral Home
