Aurora Turcios Garcia

Aurora Turcios Garcia, age 78 years, of Great Bend, Kansas and formerly of Honduras, passed away at her home in Great Bend, Kansas after a brief illness. She was born on August 14, 1940 at Caridad Valle, Honduras and was an Elementary and Middle School Teacher in Honduras for 40 years prior to her retirement. Aurora had been a resident of Great Bend for the past three months. She was of the Catholic faith and loved gardening and also loved helping people whenever she could.

Survivors include her son, Ely Manrique Molina (and his spouse, Mariela) of Danli, Honduras and her daughter, Yadira (and her husband, Juan) Sorcini of Great Bend, Kansas; three grandchildren: Alejandra, Christopher, and Mathew Molina; one brother, Francisco (and his wife, Maria) Turcios of Caridad Valle, Honduras. Aurora was preceded in death by her parents.

Amelia “Mimi” Raffelock

GREAT BEND – Amelia “Mimi” Raffelock, 88, passed away November 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, at Great Bend Health and Rehab Center, Great Bend. She was born August 26, 1930 at Kirksville, Missouri, to Dr. David L. & Lura Pearl (Hocker) Young. She married Ralph J. Raffelock, September 30, 1952, at Ottawa. He died July 11, 2008.

Mimi was a member of the Central Baptist Church and very active in her faith. She was a registered nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and a Supervisor at CKMC for 27 years. She held memberships as past Girl Scout Leader and Cub Den Mother, Red Cross Board Member and past President, Barton County Food Bank Board member and past President, Barton County Health Advisory Board member and the Republican Committee Women.

Survivors include, one son, Troy Raffelock and wife, Melissa of Granger, Indiana; two daughters, Leslie Raffelock of Great Bend and Shelbi Raffelock of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Raffelock and son, Michael Raffelock.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. John Grummon and Pastor Daniel Dugas presiding. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Public Library, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Jimmie Lee Hoskins

GREAT BEND – Jimmie Lee Hoskins, 80, passed away November 5, 2018, at North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley, Colorado. He was born July 16, 1938, to Miller Key and Mamie (Doonan) Hoskins at Hutchison. He married Barbara Reynolds, October 24, 1964, at Lyons. She survives.

Coming to Great Bend from Lyons in 1963, Jimmie was a machinist and welder for Flexweight and GBI and farmed for Phillips Farms. He loved hunting, fishing and trapping.
Survivors include, his wife, Barbara Hoskins of the home; one son, Kendall Hoskins and wife Jennifer, two daughters, Wendy Brackeen and husband Steve and Dawn Hoskins, all of Great Bend; nine grandchildren, Nicole Gardner and husband Ryan, Marcie Mohr and husband Nicholas, Keri Kaiser and husband Zach, Kendra Metzger and husband Kyle, Kayla Hoskins, Tara Bailey and husband Sam, Joshua Belcher, Victoria Belcher and Brianna Belcher; 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miller and Mamie Hoskins; two brothers, Charles Hoskins and Gay Hoskins, and one sister, Ginger Mesker.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Singleton presiding. Dee Ann Buffington Nurnberg

Dee Ann Buffington Nurnberg, 75, of Mansfield Texas, died Saturday, September 29th 2018, she passed away peacefully at her home in Mansfield Texas.  Dee Ann was born February 12, 1943, in Great Bend Kansas, the daughter of Tom Buffington and Marie Herbel Buffington.

Dee Ann graduated from Hoisington High School in Hoisington, Kansas with the class of 1961. After graduation Dee Ann’s career and family took her all over the United States, her favorite places to live had been Denver and New Hampshire, however Dee always considered Hoisington her home. In Dee’s spare time she enjoyed crafts, reading and spending time with her family, especially her two amazing grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendi Pollack of Nashua NH; two grandchildren, Jonathan Pollack of Arlington TX and Joycelyn Pollack of Nashua NH; a sister Pam Basye of Mansfield TX; and many nieces and nephews who absolutely adored her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Buffington, mother, Marie Buffington, sister, Judy Shull, brother, James Buffington and her husband Raymond Nurnberg.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hoisington City Cemetery with Reverend Wayne Baldyga officiating.

Bradley Dean Leiker

Bradley Dean Leiker, 61, passed away November 6, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 4, 1957, in Aurora, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Esther (Denning) Stimmel; his only brother, William Leiker and a nephew, Ryan Leiker.

Bradley is survived by his wife Theresa Leiker of the home; his first wife, Patricia (Davis) McCartney, and his five children; Paul Leiker, Anthony Leiker, Nickalaus Leiker,
William Leiker, and Elizabeth (Leiker) Daniels. Also his eight grandchildren, Alexandria Leiker, Makayla Leiker, Trinity Scripsick, Clayton Aguierre, Jazmin Leiker Martin, Ray Aguirre, Derek Daniels, Quinton Daniels, and Liam Leiker.

Cremation has taken place and Memorial Service will be at the Duck Blind in Hoisington on Saturday, November 10th, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Anita Jo Brewer

Dateline – Hoisington 

Anita Jo Brewer, 75, died November 5, 2018, at Hays Medical Center.  She was born June 28, 1943, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Joe and Hester (Lantz) Shanelec.  Anita graduated from Hoisington High School 1962.

She married Garrel Ray Brewer in June of 1966. They later divorced.

Anita grew up in Hoisington and moved to Lucas in 1978.  She moved back to Hoisington in 1991. During her time in Hoisington she was a member of the United Methodist Church. Then following some health concerns she moved to Locust Grove Village, in La Crosse in 2008, where she thoroughly enjoyed participating in the many activities including the Red Hat Society and the Bell Choir.

She is survived by her son, Darrin Brewer and wife Shanna of Hays; brother, Steve Shanelec and wife Kathryn of Wichita; and three grandchildren, Rylee, Raegan, and Chase Brewer.

Friends may call Friday, 9 a.m. until service with family to greet friends just prior to service at 1 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2018, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Fisher presiding. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery, Wilson, Kansas.

Miriam L. Wilborn

Miriam L. Wilborn passed away November 4, 2018 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born April 29, 1950, to Oswald and Hazel Schremmer at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Virgil L. Schremmer, two nephews, Shawn Schremmer and Kevin Wilborn.

Survivors include husband, Keith Wilborn, of the home. Children, Brian (Cindy) Wilborn of Hoisington, Krista (Ben) Brewer of Hoisington and Kari (Chad) Bloomer of Ottawa, KS. Nine grandchildren, Hannah (Colton) Lagerman of Altanta, GA, Madison Wilborn of Hays, KS, Nolan Wilborn, Hoisington. Avery Brewer and Livvy Brewer of Hoisington. Chandler Bloomer of Great Bend, Chase Bloomer and Boston Bloomer of Ottawa, KS. Sister, Marcia Schremmer of Hoisington.

Miriam’s civic interest was very obvious. She was past president of the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce, past president of Chamber Ambassador Club, past president of Hoisington Business Professional Women organization, member of V.F.W. Auxillary. She was very active in St. John Catholic Church and parish council.

Her professional endeavors included 28 years as a professional Real Estate agent. She worked with Keenan Real Estate and later Keller Real Estate Inc. until her retirement in April 2015.

In her spare time, she enjoyed working her beautiful flower garden and relaxing with her friends on a weekly bowling league. Miriam was also a big supporter of her grandchildren in both their academic and athletic accomplishments.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and

Vigil and Rosary at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Anselm Eke. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.

Alan T. Schneweis

ELLINWOOD – Alan T. Schneweis, 57, passed away October 30, 2018, at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. He was born December 16, 1960 at Hoisington, to Bernard & Delores (Hoffman) Schneweis. He married Susan Curran on October 9, 1982 at Great Bend.  She survives.

A resident of Ellinwood, Alan was the Area Manager for the Great Bend Coop Association. He was a member of the Ellinwood United Methodist Church and a former USD 355 school board member. He loved wood-working, classic cars, was a great handyman around the home and loved to spend time with his family.

Survivors include, wife, Susan of the home; two sons, Travis Schneweis of Wichita and Bryce Schneweis of the home; one daughter, Erin Grosshuesch and husband, Calvin of Kansas City; one grandson, Drew Alan Grosshuesch of Kansas City; his father, Bernard Schneweis of Ellinwood, and six brothers, Leon Schneweis and wife Cinda of Lawrence, Richard Schneweis and wife Debbie of Claflin, Mark Schneweis of Fallon, Nevada, Paul Schneweis and wife Renee of Great Bend, Anthony Schneweis and wife Robin of Manhattan and Mike Schneweis of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Schneweis.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Ellinwood United Methodist Church, with family receiving friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Ellinwood, with Pastor Tom Reazin presiding. Memorials are suggested to the Ellinwood United Methodist Church or Camp Hope of Barton County, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Juanita Warren

GREAT BEND – Juanita Warren, 86, passed away October 31, 2018, peacefully in her sleep, at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. She was born March 15, 1932, at Hobbs, New Mexico to Young G. & Mattie (Oats) Chambliss.

A resident of Great Bend, Juanita was a homemaker and a very religious person of the Pentecostal faith. She loved reading, music, cooking, walks, car rides and her family. Everyone that knew her, called her grandma.

Survivors include, two sons, her loving son, Floyd King of the home, who was her caregiver later in life, and Allen King of Great Bend; two daughters, Carolyn and Latricia, both of Texas; six grandchildren, Amanda Thompson, Matthew Tysver, Michael Tysver, Lucas Gladden, Brittani Carlsen and husband Bobby and Gilbert King, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy King; five brothers, Felton, Jack, Clarence, Delbert and Kenneth Chambliss, and sister, Annabelle Chambliss.

There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. The family will hold a Private Family Service at a later date.

Susan Ann Weber

Dateline – Claflin 

Susan Ann Weber, 66, died October 30, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

She was born July 26, 1952, in Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Martina (Younger) Luebbers.  Susan graduated in 1970 from Claflin High School and then in 1974 she received her bachelors of education degree from Kansas State University.

On August 6, 1977, she married her high school sweetheart Roy Weber in Claflin, Kansas.

A lifetime resident of Barton County, Susan was a school teacher in Ellinwood, Claflin, and Bushton, teaching 28 years at all levels but mostly 3rd Grade, retiring in 2014. She was also the co-owner of Weber Four Oil Company.

Susan was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Altar Society, and a former member of the KNEA and NEA.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roy Weber; son, Christopher John Weber and wife Anne of Wichita; daughter, Tracey McKenna and husband Brett of Claflin; brothers, Mike Luebbers and wife Dawn of Ballwin, Missouri, and Bill Luebbers and wife Becky of Hoisington; five grandchildren, Owen and Matilda Weber, and Tate, Ellie, and Audrey McKenna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Andy Luebbers, and an infant grandson, Thomas James McKenna.

Friends may call 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Vigil and Rosary will be 5:30 p.m. Friday and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, November, 3, 2018, all at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Terrence Klein. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery, Dubuque.
