BILLIE HELEN (NOBLITT) SYMANK

Billie Helen (Noblitt) Symank, age 73 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 21, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lyons, Kansas. Billie was born on July 16, 1944 at Hoisington, Kansas to George and Hazel (Smith) Noblitt. She was united in marriage to Chuck Miller in January of 1964, and they later divorced. She married Albert Gonzales in 1976, and they also divorced. Billie worked as a sales consultant for Southard Home Improvement in Great Bend for around ten years, and then worked for the Tumble Inn Laundry in Great Bend for another ten years. Billie later worked as a circulation clerk for the Great Bend Tribune for six years prior to her retirement. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, Kansas and had a passion for motorcycle riding and reading, was an avid animal lover, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Billie is survived by one son, Kevin C. (and his wife, Jamie) Miller of Great Bend, Kansas; eight grandchildren: Tyler and Jaron Miller, Jenna Applebee, Jennifer Long, and Eric, Jason, Ryan and Aaron Parr; thirteen great-grandchildren: Erica, Maycee, Kanyen, Adelynn, and Amelia Parr; Gavin and Emily Long; Ava, Layla, and Isaiah Parr; Aubree and Josephine Applebee; and McKinnley Miller. Billie was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Jason Parr officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Monday, from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. The family requests that Memorial Contributions may be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend, Kansas. Marilyn Fern Miller

Marilyn Fern Miller, 78, passed away Saturday March 17, 2018, at Cherry Village Care Home. She was born May 8, 1939, in Great Bend, the daughter of Harold and Etta (Lesh) Betts. 

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a resident of Great Bend.  Marilyn attended school in Russell and Great Bend, graduating from Great Bend High School with the class of 1958. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Loved her family unconditionally and always loved the outdoors and animals. She was united in marriage to Tim Miller in November of 1957 in Great Bend and they were divorced in 1977.

Survivors include son Sean Miller and wife Julie, daughter Kim Sneath and husband Terry and niece Pamela French all of Great Bend; great nephew Donovan Bryceland of Eugene, Ore.; grandchildren, Chance DeForest and wife Natalie and Tyler DeForest; three great grandchildren Riley, Analyn and Kholby DeForest. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack E. Betts and sister Lula E. Lewis.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday March 22, 2018, at Bryant Funeral home, with Pastor Dale MacKinney officiating. Inurnment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. No visitation since cremation has taken place.

Memorials have been established with Golden Belt Humane Society or Cherry Village Activity Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Lorene Marie Reif

HOISINGTON — Lorene Marie Reif, 81, passed away March 16, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kan.  She was born September 7, 1936, at Russell County, Kan., to Frank and Gertrude (Eckert) Lang.  Lorene married Donald Eugene Reif Aug. 27, 1956, at Beaver.

Lorene, a life-time resident of northern Barton County, was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, and the Altar Society.  She was a devoted homemaker and farmwife, holding subsequent employment as a bookkeeper for the Hoisington Oil Co., and a cook for St. John Catholic School.

Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Reif, Sr. of the home; one son, Don E. Reif, Jr. of Hoisington; two daughters, Diane Reif of Great Bend, and Sheila Metzger of Hutchinson; one brother, Melvin Lang and wife Yvonne of Perry; and one grandson, Hunter Metzger.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lyle, Kenneth and Francis Lang.

A Funeral Mass for Lorene will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Anselm Eke officiating.  Interment will follow at St. John Church Cemetery, Hoisington.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 19, with a Vigil and Altar Society Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.  Memorial Funds may be directed to Rosewood Services or Kans for Kids or St. John Catholic Church, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, P.O. Mary Marcella Weide

Mary Marcella Weide, 99, Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Great Bend, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. Mary was born May 15, 1918, at Spearville, to William and Anna (Tully) Fleming.

Mary is survived by her children, Jan Funnell (Kevin), John Weide, Joe Weide (Melissa) and Jay Weide (Shawn); seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ermalee Newby; and sister-in-law, Kathy Snyder.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22nd at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604.

Rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23rd, at Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 S Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530, with burial to follow in Great Bend Cemetery, 4500 Broadway Ave, Great Bend, KS 67530.

TROY L. PLOWMAN

Troy Lynn Plowman, age 49 years, of Great Bend, Kansas and formerly of Larned, Kansas, passed away at his home in Great Bend on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2018. Troy was born on May 14, 1968 at Hays, Kansas to Richard D. and Donnitta (Bullard) Plowman. Troy grew up in Larned, and graduated from Larned High School in 1987, where he was voted “Most Likely To Succeed”. After his High School graduation, Troy attended Dodge City Community College and later Barton Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Science. Troy worked as a Machinist for Curtis Manufacturing in Dodge City, Kansas prior to moving to Great Bend in 1993. Troy was a former member of the Larned Church of Christ, and sang in the church and high school choir and chorus. He enjoyed listening to music, walking, hanging out at McDonald’s and Walmart, and loved to visit with his many friends. Troy enjoyed working with his hands and welding, and was especially proud of a large hydraulic crane he built which was on display at Doonan’s Inc. east of Great Bend for several months.

Survivors include his parents, Richard D. “Dick” and Donnitta B. “Donnie” Plowman of Larned, Kansas; one brother, Brad (and his wife, Sharon) Plowman of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one sister, Carla (and her husband, David) Givens of Marion, Kansas; two nieces: Angela Margritz and Renee (and her husband, Jonah) Gehring; one nephew, Bobby (and his wife, Natalie) Blackwell; one great-niece Paige Gehring and one great-nephew, Adam Margritz.

Cremation has been chosen. There will be no viewing or services at this time. A Private Family Memorial Service with inurnment in Farmington Cemetery at Macksville, Kansas will be held at a later date. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Larned Church of Christ at Larned, Kansas or Barton Community College Foundation, Great Bend, Kansas. Alice Rae Arnett

GREAT BEND — Alice Rae Arnett, 86, passed away March 11, 2018, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River.

She was born October 27, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas, to Harvey Lathrop and Alice (Archer) Lathrop.

Alice married Robert Keith Arnett July 7, 1951, at Great Bend.  He passed away September 2, 2006.

Alice, a long-time resident of Great Bend, worked for Thurman Morrison and Associates, Keller Real Estate and Insurance Agency, and S.R.S.  She was a member of the First Christian Church, Great Bend.

Survivors include two daughters, Toni Ely and Teresa Raymer both of Great Bend; grandchildren, Chad Raymer, Tracy Raymer and Dylan Basgall; great-grandchildren, Michael Raymer, Alex Mulligan, Miette Kaiser and Andrew Kaiser.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at First Christian Church, Great Bend, with The Reverend Joshua Leu officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Visitation 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family present from  6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Fund has been established with Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Rick Joe Sharp

Ellinwood–Rick Joe Sharp, 62, passed away Wednesday March 14, 2018, surrounded by his family in Ellinwood. He was born May 23, 1955 in Kearney, NE., the son of Stan and Jean (Anderson) Sharp.

Rick graduated from Kearney Junior College with an Associate degree. He was united in marriage to Colleen Vsetecka on November 7, 1975 in Great Bend. In 1986 they moved to Ellinwood from Great Bend. He was a clerk for the Barton County District Court for nine years and employed for the sheriff’s department for seventeen years. Rick loved fishing, watching volleyball and softball games, spoiling the grandkids, and doing work around the house.

Survivors include his wife Colleen of the home; sons Nicholas and wife Maureen of McPherson, and Jeremy of Lacrosse, WI.; daughter Melissa Segovia and husband Tony of Wichita; brother Ron Sharp and wife Chaio of Kearney, NE.; sisters Kathy Toriello and husband Bill of Midlothian, VA. and Cindy Weaver and husband Larry of Cheyenne, WY.; grandchildren Sheridan, Declan, Kameron and Lawson.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial has been established with Friends University Softball Scholarship, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Margaret E. Gorsline

Great Bend–Margaret E. Gorsline, 94, passed away Tuesday March 13, 2018 at Cherry Village Care Home. She was born November 23, 1923 in Kansas City, KS to O.H. and Ester (Gelahar) Bender.

Survivors include son Miles Linroth of Stanwood, WA.; sister Maxine Brown of Pocatello, ID.; granddaughter Emma Linroth. She was preceded in death by brothers William and Jim Bender.

Philip Leon Ward

Philip Leon Ward, 76 passed away at Hays Medical Center on March 11, 2018. He was born to Virgil Slocum and Margaret Ward on December 8, 1941 in Great Bend KS. He married Sharon Ensle in Hoisington Kansas, she preceded him in death in 1968.

Philip was a life time resident of Great Bend, he was an Automotive Detailer working for Spruills, Doonans, Reiters and Elliotts until retirement. He was a former member of the Sunflower Rod and Custom (SCRA), NHRA, AHRA. Survivors include son, Richard and wife Rachael Ward of Great Bend. KS; brother, Clarence “Butch” Krom Jr of Great Bend KS and grandchildren Morgan Ward and Liza Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Ward.

A memorial service will be held at Bryant Funeral Home on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2:00PM with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. There is no visitation as cremations has taken place. The family will hold a private family inurement at later date in Hoisington KS. Memorials have been requested to the Golden Belt Humane Society in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
