HAROLD   L. STRAUB 

Harold Lewis Straub, age 78 years, of Russell, Kansas, passed away on Saturday evening, August 12, 2017 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas after a brief illness.   Harold was born on June 4, 1939 at Claflin, Kansas to Raymond F. and Helen A. (Zecha) Straub.   He was united in marriage to E. Eileen Logan on February 28, 1960 at Lincoln, Kansas, and the couple lived in Claflin and Walker, Kansas for many years prior to moving to Russell in June of 2009.   Harold worked as an oilfield pumper for most of his life, having worked for Tenneco, Bennett and Schulte, Kaiser Francis, and S & K Oilfield Services, and also worked for a time at the Helium Plant in Otis, Kansas.   He was born and raised in the Catholic faith.   Harold loved animals, especially his dogs, and also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, E. Eileen Straub of Russell, Kansas; four sons:   Ricky Lee (and his wife, Margie) Straub of Walker, Kansas, H. DeLos (and his wife, Camille) Straub of Salina, Kansas, Clint Paul (and his wife, Staci) Straub of Russell, Kansas, and Evan Wade Straub of Russell, Kansas; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Donald Raymond (and his wife, Patsy) Straub of Great Bend, Kansas and Gary Joseph (and his wife, Kay) Straub of Albert, Kansas; one sister Diane Kay (and her husband, Larry) Hackerott of Hays, Kansas and one sister-in-law, Doris Straub of Otis, Kansas.   Harold was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Kenneth “Mert” Straub, two children in infancy and two grandchildren, Jerrica and Jayden Straub.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Pastor Larry J. Schumacher officiating.   Inurnment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery at Olmitz, Kansas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to the Harold L. Allan F. Martin

DUNDEE — Allan F. Martin, 77, died Aug. 10, 2017, in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 19, 1939, at Elkhart, Ind., the son of Ellis M. and Clydia I. (Geiser) Martin. He married Earline Morland Nov. 17, 1984, at McPherson.  Mr. Martin was a pastor in the Mennonite Church at Elkhart, Ind., led a men’s prayer group and enjoyed farming as a hobby. Mr. Martin was a Dundee resident.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Martin of the home; three sons, Tod Martin and his wife Rita of Casper, Wyo., Terry Martin of Hutchinson, Kan., and Brad Martin and his wife Jen of Rockton, Ill.; one daughter, Karen Pepperd and her husband Paul of Kingman, Kan.; one brother: Ken Martin and his wife Sally of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Jan Martin-Baker, Granger, Ind.; four grandchildren, Dustin Densler, Shana Martin, Alec Martin and Mady Martin; and one great-grandson, Jakob Densler. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ron Martin; and one sister, Dorothy Jones.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Heartland Community Church at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Great Bend with Pastors Roy Savage and Matt Schaffer officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Olive Cemetery in Elkhart, Ind. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Samuel Maurice Roach

GREAT BEND — Samuel Maurice Roach, 54, died Aug. 6, 2017, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born April 11, 1963, at Great Bend, the son of Allan Maurice and Sharon K. (Foos) Roach. He married Sharolyn Reddick and they later divorced. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was a farmer and worked in the oilfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Sasha Kirksey of Wichita, and Sierra Jones of Palmdale, Calif.; and one sister, Cheryl Keener of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by brother, Bradley Allan Roach.

A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at his residence, 417 SW 10 Ave., Great Bend. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Ann Ehrlich

Margaret Ann Ehrlich, 84, died August 5, 2017, at her home in Great Bend. She was born July 6, 1933 in Barton County, the daughter of Robert and Aurlia (Schugart) Connor.

She graduated from Hoisington High School with the class of 1952. She was united in marriage to Leonard Dale Ehrlich on June 6, 1952 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and collecting pigs and angels. She loved being with her family.

Survivors include husband Leonard of the home; daughter Debbie Adams and husband Terry of Council Grove; brother John Connor of Ellinwood; sisters Frances Flagor and husband Reuben of Hoisington, Loretta Ulrey of Larned and Barbara Lehning and husband Mike of Logan; grandchildren Kim Elliott and husband Jeremy and Eric Swalley and wife Staci; great grandchildren Keaton, Quinton and Azha Elliott, Gavin, Kohin and Sorin Swalley; step grandchildren Justen Campbell and wife Jessie, Chris Blackledge and wife Jamie, Dan Adams and wife Jessica; step great grandchildren Jeth, Hunter, Ashton Campbell, Cooper, Lillie Blackledge, Ashton, Danica, Zayden, Maylea Adams. Craig Allen Morrison, Sr.

HUTCHINSON — Craig Allen “Bud” Morrison, Sr., 59, died Aug. 2, 2017, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 18, 1957, at Great Bend, the son of George M. and Faye (Miller) Morrison, Sr. He was a 1976 graduate of Great Bend High School. The same year he joined the United States Navy, serving four years of active duty and then served with the Naval Reserve. He married the love of his life, Rebecca A. Zamarripa Dec. 4, 1981, at Great Bend. He loved her so much he married her again on December 4, 1999.

Craig worked for 36 years in public service, first for the City of Great Bend Street Department as a supervisor and then transferred to the City of Hutchinson in 1990. He held several positions, and at the time of his death was Assistant Parks Director.  He was a man of many hats and enjoyed watching sports, gardening, and playing guitar and singing.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Morrison, of the home; two sons, James Blanchard of Larned, and Craig Morrison, Jr. of Hutchinson; two daughters, Teresa Jerry and her husband John of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jessica Morrison of Hutchinson; three brothers, Dennis Morrison and his wife Josie of Sand Springs, Okla., George Morrison, Jr. of Great Bend, and Gary Morrison of Great Bend; two sisters: Joyce Windham and her companion Blue of Sand Springs, Okla., and Jenny Rowan and Donnie Woods of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Joshua Jerry, John Jerry, Jr., Riley Morrison, Brayton Bateman, Celeste Jerry and Jubille Jerry; and one great-granddaughter, Meah Joy Jerry. He is also survived by his second family, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Carmen Skelly, Paul Zamarripa and wife Gina, Steve Zamarripa and wife Judy, Mary Ingram and husband Ray, Rose Sands and husband Lonnie, Isabella Earegood and husband Don, Angie Ingram, Eldon Ingram and Vivian Bahr; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Cora Sue Murphy.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery with military rites by United States Navy Honor Guard. Ruth N. Stephens

Dateline: Claflin, Kansas

Ruth N. Stephens, 86, died August 3, 2017, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.  She was born March 15, 1931, on the family farm in rural Coyle, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Hoover) Stanbrough.

A longtime resident of Claflin she was a homemaker.

On December 4, 1949, she married Clifford Lawrence Stephens in Yuma, Arizona.  He preceded her in death on December 1, 2006.

Ruth had a great love of wildlife and nature.  Clifford and she loved traveling and camping. For many summers they were camp hosts in Colorado. She loved feeding and watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds. In her later years she began crocheting bird’s nests for bird rescue organizations. She was an avid crafter and could craft things from almost anything. She had many artistic talents and loved to crochet, sew, and make ceramics.

Survivors include: son, Roger Stephens and wife Rita of Claflin; daughter Dawn Hinds and huband Randy of Meridan, Iowa; sisters, Wilda Smart Of Mountain View, Arkansas, and Lorena Miller of Lucerne, California; three grandchildren, Shawna Roark and husband Michael of Garden City, Kansas, Eric Stephens of Hays, Kansas, and Elisha Chambers and husband Chad of Leon, Kansas; and two great grandchildren, Mason and Molly Roark.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and infant twins, son, Bobby and daugther, Bonnie; parents, and stepfather, Luther Stanbrough; four brothers, Herman, Harland, Jack and Bill Stanbrough; six sisters, Mildred Jarvis, Annie Ramsey, Blanche Thompson, Barbra Landis, Bonnie Hurst, Izetta Allison; and an infant great granddaughter, Morgan Roark.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 5th, 2017, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gene Langhofer presiding.  Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery. Bernard William Kirmer

Bernard William “Ben” Kirmer, 85, died August 1, 2017, at Ellsworth County Medical Center, Ellsworth, Kansas.

He was born November 5, 1931, on the farm in rural Odin, Kansas, the son of Andrew A. “Andy” and Stephanie J. “Fannie” (Zorn) Kirmer.

Ben served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Corporal and rifle instructor.

A longtime resident of the Dubuque and Claflin area, Mr. Kirmer was a lifelong farmer and stockman in the Dubuque area and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a great love of farming that he passed down to his children, and he helped on the farm until his recent health issues.

Ben was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Kansas, and a former member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Dubuque, Kansas. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Odin Council #2630.

On June 14, 1958, he married Shirla A. Moore in Larned, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2010.

Survivors include: sons, Gary Kirmer and wife Patricia, Alan Kirmer and wife Kathy, both of Claflin, Kansas, Dennis Kirmer and wife, Jan of Hays, Kansas, and Marvin Kirmer, and wife Bobette of Claflin, Kansas; daughters, Rita Stueder and husband Alan and Lora Zink and husband Joe, all of Claflin, Kansas; a sister, Irene Carlisle of Woodward, Oklahoma; brothers, Andy Kirmer and wife Lyn of Rogers, Arkansas and Richard “Dick” Kirmer and wife Nancy of Hoisington, Kansas; and 19 grandchildren, Rachel Dolechek, Megan Niedens, Brogan White, Norel Kirmer, Carson Kirmer, Brandy Kirmer, Kyle Kirmer, Kalee Kirmer, Sarah Stueder, Cindy Stueder, Tim Stueder, Abby Stueder, Nathan Zink, Neil Zink, Nicole Koelsch, Natalie Bieberle, Drew Kirmer, Kade Kirmer, and Benn Kirmer; and 12 great grandchildren and several more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Edwin Kirmer and a sister, Viola Bennett.

Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7: 00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery, Dubuque.

Nancy L. Mortimer

Nancy L. Mortimer, 83, died July 28, 2017, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.

She was born September 8, 1933, in rural Barton County, Kansas, the daughter of Karl F. and Alta Mae (Smith) Sette. Nancy was a graduate of Hoisington High School.

On October 31, 1951, she married Glynn R. Mortimer in Astoria, Oregon. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2014.

A lifetime Hoisington area resident, she worked for Barton County Community College as a benefit supervisor.

Nancy was first a member of First Christian Church in Hoisington, Kansas. Then when the church in Hoisington closed she became a member of First Christian Church in Great Bend, Kansas. She was very active in her church, singing in the choir, playing piano, teaching Sunday school and serving on the church board. As a soloist, Nancy sang for many funerals of family and friends. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Chapter GG, and the Beta Sigma Phi of Hoisington. Nancy and Glynn both served together as 4-H leaders in both the sheep and horse programs.

She is survived by two daughters; Glynda Gasser and husband Tim of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Shelly Demel and husband Brad of Hoisington, Kansas; six grandchildren, Lexi (Demel) Deutsch and husband Jake, Krysta (Gasser) Rutledge and husband Joe, Karley Gasser, Brady Demel, Abbi Demel, and Ally Gasser; a niece, Jennie Carns and husband Randy; a nephew, Greg Borchers and wife Chris; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Karla J. Borchers.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2017, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Joshua Leu presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington City Cemetery. Friends may call 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
