Marylin Kay Ramsey

GREAT BEND — Marylin Kay Ramsey, 79, went to be with her savior on July 7, 2017, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born Sept. 19, 1937, at Greeley, Colo., the daughter of Clyde and Kathryn (Zieber) Mackey. She married William Dean “Bill” Ramsey June 19, 1958, at Las Vegas, Nev.  He died Dec. 2, 1991. A Great Bend resident since 1977, coming from Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Ramsey worked in real estate and insurance sales.

Mrs. Ramsey was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. She loved traveling, cooking and spending time with family.

Survivors include one son, Butch Ramsey and his wife Melissa of Great Bend; two daughters, Kathye Phelps and her husband Rick of Ellinwood, and Kary Ramsey of Ellinwood; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon Phelps; and one great-grandson, Christian “Bean” Wesley.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend with Pastor Tim Singleton officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Farmington Cemetery, Macksville. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home. Beth Holl

GREAT BEND — Beth Holl, 95, died July 6, 2017, at her home in Great Bend. She was born June 1, 1922, at Stafford, the daughter of Everett Clare and Zona Priscilla (Reese) Newell. She married Ottomer Lawrence Holl May 3, 1953, at Russell.  He died February 23, 1966. A longtime Great Bend resident, Mrs. Holl was a seamstress and upholsterer.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women, was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Holl and his wife Renee of St. John; two daughters, Diane Rambo and her husband Jim of Talkeetna, Alaska, and Donna Holl of Great Bend; one sister, Lois Rethorst and her husband Bob of Smith Center; and sisters-in-law, Betty Popp, Nina Newell, Althea Watts and Frances Nuss. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin Newell, Dean Newell and Wayne Newell.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Lenard Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Monday at Russell City Cemetery, Russell. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home. Teodora Hernandez

TEODORA   HERNANDEZ

Teodora Hernandez, age 87 years, of Midland, Texas and formerly of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away in Midland, Texas on Sunday afternoon, July 2, 2017.   Teodora was born to Calistro and Antonia (Brito) Hernandez on April 2, 1930 at Alamos de San Antonio mmb Chihuahua, Mexico.   She was married to Jose Rubio, and the couple made their home in Great Bend, Kansas.   Jose passed away in 1994. Teodora was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend, Kansas and moved to Midland, Texas four years ago. She loved crossword puzzles, sewing, and walking, and also was a great cook. Teodora loved to make corn tortillas and red enchiladas, being sure to spice it up!

Survivors include two sons: Hipolito (and his wife, Martina) Rubio of Midland, Texas and Candelario (and his wife, Elia) Rubio of Odessa, Texas; one daughter, Lupe Rubio of Denver, Colorado; 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.   Teodora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose Rubio in 1994, two brothers (Juan and Pedro), and four sisters (Santana, Paz, Maria, and Anita).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish, Great Bend, Kansas with Father Don Bedore officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend City Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas.   Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 6 and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.   Memorials may be made in care of the family for later designation.   Online condolences may be left and a complete obituary notice may be viewed at https://www.charterfunerals.com/obituary/chgb.

Wayne F. Schneider

OLATHE — Wayne F. Schneider, 50, died July 3, 2017, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park. He was born Sept. 11, 1966, at Great Bend, the son of Francis Leo and Lois Marie (Casey) Schneider. After graduation he worked for Fuller Brush and moved to Kansas City in 1994 to work for Huhtamaki, previously known as Sealright.

Mr. Schneider was a charter member and former president of the Great Bend FFA Alumni Association.

Survivors include two brothers, LaVern Schneider and his wife Elaine of Albert, and David Schneider and his wife June of Great Bend; one sister, Catherine Kaledo of Aurora, Colo., five nieces and nephews, Doug Schneider, Jason Schneider, Scott Schneider, Matt Schneider and Micca Schneider; and three great-nieces and nephews, Alec Schneider, Trey Schneider and Cade Schneider.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Ted Stoecklein celebrating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home. Robert married Mary Waterman in 1959, and later divorced. Robert was involved in insurance sales in the Denver area, and was called to the ministry in 1968.  He pastored in Indiana and Kansas after attending and graduating from Baptist Bible College, Springfield, MO.  Moving to Great Bend in 1974 from Sun City, KS, Rev. Morris pastored First Bible Baptist Church, Great Bend, retiring in 2007.  Robert enjoyed the outdoors and fishing.

Ethel Steele Williamson Glass

Dateline: Hoisington, Kansas 

Ethel Steele Williamson Glass, 102, died July 2, 2017, at Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas.  She was born September 11, 1914, at Belvue, Kansas, the daughter of Harry N. and Florence M. (Duerstein) Steele.

Ethel graduated from Wamego High School in 1932.  She attended Emporia State College for two years and then taught in a one room school for a year at White Chapel School in Potawatamie County.

Ethel then moved to Hoisington and did office work in both Great Bend and Hoisington, with her last job being secretary for Peel Brothers Drilling. Ethel was also employed for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco for two years while her husband, Milby “Bub” was serving in the South Pacific.

Ethel married Milby V. “Bub” Williamson on July 25, 1936, in Hoisington, Kansas.  He passed away on May 24, 1977.  She later married Andrew J. Glass on January 2, 1979, in Wichita, Kansas.  He passed away on July 4, 1997.

She is survived by; cousins, James Steele of DeRidder, Louisiana, Joe Steele of Gravette, Arkansas, Mary Lou Simmons of Ingleside, Texas; and longtime companions and friends, Jean Herrman of Great Bend, and Delphine Hickey of Hoisington.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and a sister, Anna Rebecca Butler.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday July 7th, 2017, at Hoisington City Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. Reuben Lang ‘at presiding.  Friends may call noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or donor’s choice, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.

Danelda Sarah St. Aubyn

GREAT BEND — Danelda Sarah St. Aubyn, 84, died June 22, 2017, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born Oct. 9, 1932, at Russell County, the daughter of Guy Edgar and Lydia (DeWald) St. Aubyn. A Great Bend resident for 60 years, Miss St. Aubyn was a first grade teacher at Riley Elementary School, retiring in 1992.

Miss St. Aubyn was a member of First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Iota Chapter, United Methodist Women, Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel, Barton County League of Women Voters and Pilot Club, all of Great Bend.

Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard St. Aubyn and Charles St. Aubyn, and six sisters, Betty Dillon, Hattie “Peggy” Ehrlich, Norma Munday, Kathryn St. Aubyn, Bertha Dwinelle and Irene St. Aubyn.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Lenard Maxwell officiating. Margaret M. Miller

GREAT BEND — Margaret M. Miller, 97, died June 29, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend. She was born Dec. 27, 1919, at Great Bend, the daughter of Edward James and Mary Marie (Mallory) Kirkman. She married Harry Hewitt Baker Feb. 26, 1944, at Tucson, Ariz. He died March 17, 1969. She then married Eldon Gene Miller Aug. 3, 1973, at Great Bend. He died Nov. 8, 2000. She was owner and operator of Kirkman Liquor Store. Mrs. Miller was a lifetime Great Bend resident.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Survivors include one nephew, Roger Murphy and his wife Mary Lou of Great Bend; one niece, Jill Eliason and her husband Dan of Overland Park; and one niece-in-law, Karla Kirkman. She was preceded in death by one brother, K. W. “Pete” Kirkman and one sister, Aletha L. Kirkman; and two nephews, Joseph Kirkman and Donald Kirkman.

Private services will be held at a later date with burial in Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials in Mrs. Miller’s name have been established with Prince of Peace Parish, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
