Annetta Jo Schaub

schaub-annettaGREAT BEND — Annetta Jo Schaub, 38, died April 20, 2017, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend. She was born Nov. 15, 1978, at Great Bend, the daughter of Steven Douglas and Denise Deann (Krom) Lamb. She married Kurtis Schaub Oct. 4, 2014, at Ellinwood. A Great Bend, resident since 2000, coming from Ellinwood, Annetta had previously worked for USD 428, as a para-professional, and had most recently been employed as a legal assistant for the law firm of Watkins Calcara, Chtd.

Annetta was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, of Great Bend.  She enjoyed her pets, cooking, hunting and fishing, and was an avid Great Bend High School Panthers fan.  Above all, she loved, cherished, and adored her kids, supporting and attending every activity and function possible.

Survivors include her husband, Kurt Schaub, of the home; her father, Steven Douglas Lamb of Great Bend; her mother, Denise Deann Lamb of Ellinwood; two sons, Blaine Mermis and Bryce Mermis, both of the home; and two daughters, Brynn Mermis and Lydia Schaub, both of the home.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverends Jon Brudvig and Barbara Jones officiating. The family requests casual dress. Friends may greet the family from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Bryant Funeral Home. Jo Ann Winkler

winkler-jo-annGREAT BEND — Jo Ann Winkler, 78, died April 17, 2017, at Trego Manor, WaKeeney. She was born March 19, 1939, at Great Bend, the daughter of Bernard and Laura (Doll) Oberle. She married Wilbur Winkler August 22, 1964 at Claflin. They later divorced. A Great Bend resident since 1987, coming from Dodge City, Mrs. Winkler was a teacher for more than 20 years in the Diocese of Dodge City Catholic Schools.

Mrs. Winkler was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend.

Survivors include two sons, Franklin Winkler of Great Bend, and Wayne Winkler and his wife Robin of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Marya Brenner and her husband Gary of Beeler, and Wendy Winkler of Great Bend; four brothers, Larry Oberle and his wife Kaye of Newton, Mark Oberle and his wife Dianna of Victoria, Texas; Kent Oberle and his wife Jan of Midland, Texas, and Rick Oberle and his wife Cecile of Suffolk, Va.; two sisters, Sister Zita Oberle of Newton, and Doris Griffin of Overland Park; eight grandchildren, Jaron Zamarripa, Julia Badami, James Winkler, Joseph Winkler, Luke Winkler, Grace Winkler, Sienna Brenner and Thane Brenner; and two great-grandchildren, Geddy Zamarripa and Lila Badami.

Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m., and Vigil service will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore celebrating. Cleo F. Petz

petz-cleoGREAT BEND — Cleo F. Petz, 74, died April 16, 2017, at Wilson Care and Rehabilitation, Wilson. He was born Aug. 1, 1942, at Great Bend, the son of Frank N. and Vera G. (Holloway) Petz. He was a Sunflower Diversified Services client.

He was a fan of Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, NASCAR, puzzles, watching television and listening to music and his scanner.

Survivors include one sister, Janet Maneth and her husband Ron of Great Bend; one brother, Mike Petz and his wife Donna of Great Bend; six nieces and nephews, Doug Maneth, Melinda Ackerman, Tracey Martz, Michelle Brozek, Mandy Short and Misty Lanterman; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Terry West officiating. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Robert P. Olivier

olivier-robertGREAT BEND — Robert P. “Bob” Olivier, 93, died April 15, 2017, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. He was born March 31, 1924, at Danville, the son of Henry Joseph and Catherine (Clarahan) Olivier. He married Betty J. Campbell Nov. 18, 1944, at Danville.  She died March 20, 2017. A Great Bend resident since 1956, coming from Harper, Mr. Olivier was long time personnel manager for Centel. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Olivier was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #862, American Legion Argonne Post 180, and Eagles Aerie #646, all of Great Bend, and was Past Distinguished President of Optimist International.

Survivors include two sons, Robert M. “Bobby” Olivier and his wife Lora of Gardner, and Jeff Olivier and his wife Alice of St. John; one daughter, Leslie Roberts and her husband Dennis of Harper; 10 grandchildren, Melinda Maendele, Marcy Leu, Chris Olivier, Evan Olivier, Alex Olivier, Emma Olivier, Gabe Olivier, Angie Olivier, Ashley Gorney and Trenton Olivier; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward Olivier, James Olivier, Bill Olivier, Walt Olivier and Ted Olivier; and six sisters, Stella Mackey, Marie Eaton, Louise Olivier, Kathryn Elmore, Rita Watts and Teresa Hula.

Vigil service and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Ted Stoecklein celebrating. Betty Lou Corcoran

Betty Lou (Detter- Fink) Corcoran, 92, died April 15, 2017 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born January 13, 1925 in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Lillie P. Varble and Walter Detter and the late Michael D. Fink. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Corcoran on April 23, 1948 at Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1994.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Betty was a beautician, owning The Magic Mirror, which she ran out of her home and was an owner of the 2nd Street Depot for a short time.

She will be missed for her love of taking care of people and her wonderful cooking skills like her famous baked macaroni and cheese, olive egg potato salad, and peach cobbler.

Mother to; Robert “Robbie” Corcoran and wife Connie of Great Bend; Cathy (Corcoran) Morris and husband Jim of Hoisington. Sister to; JoAnn (Detter) Welch and husband Jack of Frankfort, Kansas, Nancy (Detter) Lindquist and husband Jerry of Sun City West, Ariz., Mickey (Fink) Winfrey and husband Larry of Plains, Kansas, Sandy (Fink) Deal of Corpus Christi, Texas, Michael Fink of Moscow, Kansas, and Kerry Fink of Plains, Kansas. Sister-in-law to Shirley Detter of Great Bend. Grandmother to seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was also a loving mother and companion to her beloved dog Emily, and foster mom to hundreds of foster children who called her Miss Betty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Corcoran; son, Ronald “Randy” Corcoran; and a brother, Robert “Bobby” Detter.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and until service on Thursday, at the funeral home. Family will greet friends at 1 p.m. just prior to service on Thursday. Dorothy Lucy Riddle

PAWNEE ROCK — Dorothy Lucy Riddle, 85, died April 16, 2017, at Cedar Village Long Term Care, Ness City. She was born June 16, 1931, at Offerle, the daughter of William and Lucy (Demain) Wetzel. She married Clifford Barton Riddle Sept. 11, 1950, at Woodward, Okla.  He died Nov. 14, 2000. A Pawnee Rock resident since 1964, Mrs. Riddle was a cook for Larned State Hospital, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital and Harvest Inn, where she retired.

Survivors include three sons, Clifford “Butch” Riddle of Otis, Richard D. Riddle and his wife Rose of Silver Lake, and Donnie E. Riddle of Wellington; one sister, Carolyn Langley of Hugoton; one brother, Merlyn Wetzel of Wichita; five grandchildren, David Riddle, Laura Riddle, Cara St. Peter, Angla Waggoner and Naomi Appling and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon Wetzel, Eugene Wetzel and Robert Wetzel and three sisters, Edith Larson, Velma Williamson and Erna Sanko.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Luke Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pawnee Rock Cemetery. Carol Elaine Hallett

hallett-carolGREAT BEND — Carol Elaine Hallett, 80, died April 5, 2017, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. Born Dec. 27, 1936, at Otis, she was the daughter of Manuel and Marie (Koch) Ochs. She married Eugene Ernest Hallett Sept. 22, 1956, at LaCrosse.  He died Feb. 16, 2017. She was a clerk at Fuller Brush Company and was an aide at Lincoln Elementary for 10 years.

Carol was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, and Wagon Wheels.

Survivors include one son, Eugene A. Hallett of Merriam; three daughters, Connie Rathbun and her husband Wayne of Great Bend, Michelle Schwager and her husband Ron of Hoisington, and Renea Moore and her husband Craig of Pawnee Rock; two sisters, Betty Kirby of Salina, and Valta Dreher of Rush Center; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Ochs of Rush Center; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Ochs and Robert Ochs.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Adam D. Wutka officiating. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Rush Center. Wayne E. Swigart

swigart-wayneGREAT BEND — Wayne E. Swigart, 84, died April 3, 2017, Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. Born April 20, 1932 at Blue Rapids, the son of Nolan and Eunice (Craine) Swigart. He married Wilma Martha Erna “Jean” Schroeder Sept. 21, 1957, at Great Bend.  She died June 29, 2009. A Great Bend resident since 1956, coming from Blue Rapids, he was a cowboy for Taylor Feeding and was a foreman for the City of Great Bend Parks Department.

Mr. Swigart was a member of Great Bend Saddle Club and was a former member of Eagle’s Aerie #646.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Swigart and his fiancé Amanda Baxter of Great Bend, and Randy Swigart and his wife Kathy of Overland Park; two daughters, Gail Alexander and her husband Gary of Great Bend, and Susan Thornburg and her husband Lance of Great Bend; one sister, Nola Steinert and her husband Dale of Kerrville, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Swigart and infant James Swigart; and one sister Carla Alderson.

Marvin Henry Rajewski

rajewski-marvinGREAT BEND — Marvin Henry Rajewski, 83, died April 1, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend. He was born May 13, 1933, at Victoria, the son of Frank and Mary (Wittman) Rajewski. Marvin married Betty Lou Kronewitter Feb. 4, 1956, at Schoenchen.  She died Jan. 21, 2012. Mr. Rajewski was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1959 coming from Hays. He served during Korean War as a SP3 (T) in the Army.

Marvin was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick, and American Legion Argonne Post 180, both of Great Bend. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #862 and a past commander of V.F.W. Post #3111, both of Great Bend.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and flying, holding a private pilot’s license for many years.

Survivors include one son, Mike Rajewski and wife Penny of Lake Charles, La.; two daughters, Connie Kerr and husband David of Flower Mound, Texas; and Bonnie McPherson and husband Jerry of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren, Christopher Rajewski, Matthew Burgardt, Michael Burgardt, Melissa Burgardt, Marsha Greenway, Cassandra Kerr, Ashley Kerr and Katie Kerr; two step-grandchildren, Cody McPherson and Abby McPherson; nine great-grandchildren: Nicole Kegler, Quincy Corbin, Ashton Burgardt, Olivia Burgardt, Breanna Kegler, Chloe Burgardt, Ariana McPherson, Cayden Rajewski and Harper Rajewski.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert Rajewski, Charles Rajewski and Vern Rajewski; and three sisters, Evelyn Chase, Georgine Wolf and Ceclia Yost.

Cheryl Cecilia Smith

smith-cherylHUTCHINSON — Cheryl Cecilia Smith, 73, died March 31, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living, Hutchinson. Born Dec. 17, 1943, at Denver, Colo., she was the daughter of Celina (Desmarteau) and Donald Jurgensen and James Merlin Smith.  She was employed by Black Angus Steak Ranch for more than 20 years. She was known as the tiny lady who drove her 4-wheeled scooter around town.

Survivors include two sisters, Linda Jones of Hutchinson, and Sandy Janky of Arlington, Texas; two nieces with whom she was raised, Terri Osborne and husband Richard of Ellinwood; and Tonni Bodine and husband Steve of Great Bend; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Freda Smith, Betty Hejny, Beverly Herrod and Judy Cregger.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2017, at Great Bend Cemetery with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Cheryl Smith Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Fu
