Michael L. (Green) Richards

GREAT BEND – Michael L. (Green) Richards, 60, passed away August 29, 2019, at his home in Great Bend. He was born February 9, 1959 at Great Bend, to Michael and Reada (Richards) Green.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Michael worked as a welder at Primus Sterilizer and worked also at Mitchell’s Bakery. He loved airplanes and model trains. He was a long time slow pitch softball umpire for the Great Bend Rec. He was an artist, especially skilled in creating his own crochet designs for afghans and an outstanding athlete in football, track, baseball and basketball. Michael was passionate about following and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include, his wife, Sandy of the home; two sons, Troy and Corey; three daughters, Stacie, Lindsay and Larissa; three brothers, John Green and wife Mandy and Henry Green and wife Cheryl, both of Lawrence and David Green of Hutchinson; sister, Bridget Johnson and husband Robert of Richardson, TX; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 nephews and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reada Green and Michael Green; grandmother, Lottie Johnson and Ernest and Hazel Jones.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home with Reverend Leroy Keith presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Michael Richards Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Ruth May Butler Dyson

GREAT BEND – Ruth May Butler Dyson, 82, passed away August 26, 2019, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born on September 12, 1936, at Lakin to Lewis and Mary (Forge) Moore. She married C.W. Butler on June 21, 1953, at Lakin, and later divorced in 1973. She then married Loren Dyson in 1989, at Wichita. He died in August, 1997.

A Great Bend resident since 2015, Ruth previously lived in Lakin, Topeka and Wichita. She was a long time dedicated telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. She enjoyed square dancing and traveling the world.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Butler and wife Norma of Great Bend and Keith Butler and wife Brenda of Parsons; two brothers, Charlie Moore of Arroya Grande, Calif., and Frank Moore of Kennewick, Wash.; five grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Butler and wife Maggie, Marisa Butler and husband Lucas Hannah, Dr. Caitlin Butler, Christina Butler Raz and husband Aran Raz and Angelina Butler; two great grandchildren, Christian Butler-Francis and Bentley Hannah; and one step great grandchild, Gabby. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loren Dyson; three brothers, Robert Moore, George Moore and Dick Moore; and a sister, Fern Weachter.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, with Reverend Bill Johnson. Interment will follow at Lakin Cemetery. Allene Marie Hogan

Dateline – Holyrood

Allene Marie Hogan, 93, died August 27, 2019, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, North Dakota.  She was born June 20, 1926, on the family farm north of Bushton, Kansas, the daughter of George and Hanna (Schlessiger) Heiken. Allene graduated from Holyrood High School in 1944.

Allene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.  She enjoyed family, cooking, church activities, canning, and square dancing.

On January 24, 1945, she married LeRoy Hogan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, LeRoy Hogan; and their three sons, D.A. Hogan and friend Kim of Tarkio, Missouri, David Hogan and wife Barb of Jamestown, North Dakota, Dan Hogan and wife Toni of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; a brother, Edward Heiken and wife Margie of Blaine, Washington; sister-in-law, Mary Heiken of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Shelly, Tom, Patrick, Collin, Linda, and Sean Hogan; and three great grandchildren, Ruby, Flint, and Rose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harvey Heiken, a sister, Betty Rose Shuler, and brother-in-law, Gilbert Shuler.

Vigil and Rosary will be 7 p.m., Friday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holyrood. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m.  Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, rural Great Bend, Kansas.

Richard John Proksch

Dateline – Hoisington

Richard John Proksch, 84, passed away Tuesday August 27, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Hospital. Richard was born February 21, 1935, in Hoisington, the son of William and Ida (Goscha) Proksch.

He was united in marriage to Pat Schremmer on April 24, 1957, in Hoisington.

Richard was born and raised in Hoisington. Richard and his family moved to Colorado and spent 45 years there, in 2000 they moved back to Hoisington. He was a manager of sanitation for Dawn Food Products. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and horseshoes.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Pat Proksch; two sons, Brad Proksch and wife Lisa of Hudson, Colorado, and Brent Proksch and wife Anne of Montgomery Texas; a granddaughter, Shannon Proksch of Vermillion South Dakota; two grandsons, Brian Proksch of Montgomery, Texas and Austin Proksch of Hudson, Colorado; a brother Bill Proksch and wife Rita of Thornton, Colorado; and a sister, Sue Hickel of Larned.

He was preceded in death by a son Brian and a sister Virginia Kaiser.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with family to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. with Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2019, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Anselm Eke.  Burial will follow in St. John Church Cemetery, Hoisington, with military honors.

Sister Eleanor Unrein

GREAT BEND – Sister Eleanor Unrein, 91, died August 25, 2019, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend.  She was born April 30, 1928, in Schoenchen, KS, the daughter of Carl and Lidwina Zimmerman Unrein.

She entered the Dominican Sisters Community in 1942 and pronounced vows in 1945.  Sister Eleanor ministered as a nurse and later as a hospital chaplain in Kansas and Colorado hospitals from 1951-2004.

She is survived by a brother, Tim Unrein, and a sister, Sister Charlotte Unrein, as well as the Dominican Sisters of Peace.  Sister Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 28, 2019 with Father Don Bedore presiding.  A Vigil Service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at 7:00 PM.  Both will take place at the Sisters’ Convent.  Friends may call at the convent August 27 from 11:00 AM until the Vigil Service.  Burial will be in the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery. Marjorie L. (Debes) Ludwig

Marjorie L.  (Debes) Ludwig, 83, died August 22, 2019, at her home in Hoisington.  She was born July 19, 1936, the daughter of Joseph N. and Mary E. (Linsner) Debes. Marjorie graduated from Hoisington High School in 1954.

A longtime Hoisington resident, she was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Marjorie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society.

On August 2, 1954, she married Robert G. Ludwig at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert G. Ludwig and their children; Susan Davis and husband Keith of New Cambria, Loretta Riedl and husband Bert of Great Bend, Mary Kaiser and husband Kent of Bushton, Robin Nicholson and husband Brian of Windsor, Colorado, and Dennis Ludwig of Olmitz and special friend Christine Allen; daughters-in-law, Veronica Ludwig of Olmitz and Jeri Ludwig Henderson and husband Bob of Cleveland, Oklahoma; siblings, Pat Radke of Hoisington, Bernice Capps and husband Ron of Newton, Mary Ann Thornburg and husband Alan of Rapid City, South Dakota, Virginia Foos of Greeley, Colorado, LeRoy Debes and wife Connie of Spokane, Washington, and Joe Debes and wife Renita of Loveland, Colorado; 19 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, George C. Ludwig and Robert J. “Bobby” Ludwig, and an infant son, Patrick Ludwig; sister, Joan Vink and husband Larry; brothers-in-law, Bill Radke and Harold Foos; and a grandson, Kevin Anthony Kaiser.

Friends may call 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Vigil with Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Ida Ann John

Dateline – Lincoln, California

Ida Ann John, 78, passed away Friday August 16, 2019, in Hoisington. She was born August 24, 1940, in Leibenthal the daughter of Marcus and Magdelina (Herrman) Depperschmidt. She was united in marriage to Donald John on August 29, 1958, in Roseville, Cal. He passed away June 18, 2010.

Ida has been a resident of California for the last 62 years coming from Rush Center. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo. She loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include one son Daniel John of Rio Linda, Calif. two daughters, Patricia Shell and husband Tony of Placerville Calif. and Teresa John of Grass Valley Calif., five brothers Dennis, Lee, Gerald, Charles and LaVern Depperschmidt and four sisters Rosie Korm, Joanne Fincher, Alice Stetler and Patricia Hasenfratz; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in California. Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home is helping with arrangements.

Seth Lance Hillegeist

GREAT BEND – Seth Lance Hillegeist, 23, passed away August 18, 2019 at his home in Great Bend. He was born January 31, 1996 at Liberal to Brett and Rachelle (Wilson) Hillegeist.

Coming from Lincoln in 2002, Seth was a mental health development disability technician at Larned State Hospital. He loved fishing, bbq’s, technology, listening to music, and football. He had a strong desire to love and be loved. He enjoyed spending time with his friends but he especially loved to spend time with his daughter.

Survivors include, his parents, Brett Hillegeist and stepmother Heather of Lincoln and Rachelle Hillegeist of Great Bend; his daughter, Alice Grace Hillegeist and her mother, Jenna Collins of Ellinwood; a brother, Nathan Hillegeist and wife Alexis Mattheyer of Hoisington; two sisters, Ashley Hillegeist of Great Bend and fiancé Dillon Mitchell of Hays and Kaylin Hillegeist of Hays and fiancé Nick Petz of Great Bend; and grandparents, Richard and Michelle Wilson of Liberal and Karen Jeffers of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lonnie Hillegeist and Kay A. Hanna.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Joiner presiding. Charles Gregory “Greg” Rousey

GREAT BEND – Charles Gregory “Greg” Rousey, 34, passed away August 13, 2019, at his home in Great Bend. He was born August 3, 1985, the son of Charles “Chuck” Rousey and Cathy Whiting.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Charles was a member of the Rosewood Action Club and the Mormon Church in Independence. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, horseback riding and especially loved his dogs.

Survivors include, his father, Chuck Rousey and stepmother Debbie of Muskogee, OK; his mother, Cathy Whiting of Hoisington; his significant other, David Hester, Jr. of the home; two half-sisters, Maria Montgomery of Independence and Bobbie Richie of Oklahoma City, OK; one half-brother, Jake Rousey of Muskogee, OK; one stepsister, Carla Serrano of Muskogee, OK; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, one paternal aunt and one paternal uncle.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2019, at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Pastor Adam Wutka presiding. Memorials are suggested in Memory of Charles Gregory Rousey, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
