John  Leroy  Noblitt

 

            John Leroy Noblitt, age 61 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away in Great Bend early on Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012.  John was born on December 6, 1950 at Great Bend, Kansas to Jack and Clara (Hamrdla) Noblitt, and was a resident of Great Bend for the majority of his life.  He attended school in Great Bend, and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1968.  A U.S. Army veteran, John served in Vietnam.  After his discharge from the Army, John worked as an Officer for the Great Bend Police Department for a number of years, and then worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation on Highway Maintenance for many years.  He also worked at Roto-Mix in Hoisington for several years before health concerns forced him to retire in 2009.  John was active in the Future Farmers of America while in high school, and loved motorcycles, hunting, and building and shooting guns.  He especially loved his grandchildren and family.

            Survivors include three daughters: Julie (and her husband, Brent) Kvasnicka-Lahr of Leavenworth, Kansas, Emily Noblitt of Ellinwood, Kansas and Mary A. Noblitt of Great Bend, Kansas; three grandchildren:  Emma Isaac, Izzi Edwards, and Thayne Case; one brother, Gordon L. (and his wife, Diane) Noblitt of Wichita, Kansas and one sister, Gail Wagner of Great Bend, Kansas.  John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Clara (Hamrdla) Noblitt.

            It was John’s wishes that his body be cremated following his death.  His family is planning a celebration of his life at a later date.  There will be no viewing or visitation.  Memorials may be designated to the John L. REBA  N.  RICHTER

 

            Reba N. Richter, age 85 years, of Ellinwood, Kansas and formerly of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood on Monday morning, September 17, 2012.  She was born on July 21, 1927 at Great Bend to James and Hazel (Selle) Christensen. She attended school in Great Bend, where she was a resident for most of her life. She was united in marriage to Virgil Richter in 1955, and they later divorced.  In years past, Reba worked for Bell Telephone as an Operator for several years and later worked for Fuller Brush Company for a number of years. She enjoyed raising sheep, and over the years attended both the First United Methodist and the First Assembly of God churches in Great Bend.

Survivors include her daughter, Ginger Riordan of Great Bend, Kansas and three grandchildren: Erin, Evan, and Hunter Riordan.  Reba was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hazel (Selle) Christensen, her former husband Virgil Richter, her daughter, Anita Fitzgerald in 1960, her son, Jeffrey Richter in 1963, and one sister, Oletha Wendt.

            Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Pastor Dwight Dozier officiating. Stuart Lee Compton

Larned – Stuart Lee Compton 88, of Alma, formerly of Larned, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot. 

Stuart was born April, 8, 1924 in Larned, Kansas the son of Thorn and Ruby (Mills) Compton.   He was a 1942 graduate of Larned High School and went on to serve his country in the Army during WWII from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. While in the Army he drove a truck in the Red Ball Express, delivering troops and supplies to their specific destinations. In civilian life he worked for many years for Consolidated Freight. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Kansas American Legion, VFW and the Alma Elks Lodge, where he enjoyed spending time visiting with friends the past four years.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Duane.

Graveside services will 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Larned Cemetery, Larned with the Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday all at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Military graveside rites will be provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.

Martha L. Sauer

 Rozel – Martha L. Sauer,81, died September 10, 2012, at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

 She was born June 1, 1931, in Rozel. The daughter of Elmer and Bonnie Compton Arnold; a lifetime area resident, she was a Secretary for USD 496 and also was the Rozel City Clerk.

 She was a member of the Rozel United Methodist Church, Rozel UMW and the Rozel FCE.

 On November 24, 1949 she married Jerome (Joe) A. Sauer at Rozel. He survives.

 Other survivors include; son, Dennis Sauer and wife Sandi, Rozel, two daughters; Joleen Tomlinson, Austell, Georgia and Karin Rexroad, Salina, a brother; Ralph Arnold, Larned, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by; a brother, Gene Arnold.

 Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Rozel Cemetery with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Rozel Cemetery, Rozel.
