Married Elynor Mae Brancato June 19, 1943 at Great Lakes, Illinois.  She died October 23, 2003.

He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Williams Institute of Mortuary Science in Kansas City. He worked for Burgat-Hulme Mortuary in Great Bend prior to his military service.  He was Barton County Sheriff from 1947 to 1951.  For most of his life, Mr. Werhahn was a self-employed realtor and insurance agent, later working for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Mr. Werhahn was a lifetime Great Bend, Kansas resident.

He was a United States Navy veteran serving on the USS Solace as a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class during World War II.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Argonne Post 180 where he was past commander, and A. F. and A. M. Lodge #15, Great Bend.

She was a retired secretary.

Mrs. Chalfant was a Great Bend, Kansas resident for forty-eight years coming from Hays, Kansas.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was kitchen coordinator for many years, Joy Group, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Exercise Coffee Group, and Red Hat Society.  She was a volunteer for the Barton County Food Bank and the Blood Mobile.

Erma Margaret Atteberry

Larned – Erma Margaret Atteberry, 95, died August 2, 2012, at the Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. 

She was born September 15, 1916, in Larned, the daughter of Benjamin Rustling and Eda Magnolia Krueger Sherwood. A lifetime area resident, she was a housewife. 

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Larned. 

On July 1, 1937, she married Gerald Edward Atteberry. He passed away June 7, 1997. 

Survivors include four sons: Ron and wife Sandy, Evanston, WY; Ken and wife Pam, Claflin; Pastor Robert and wife Jean, Boise, Idaho; and Dean and wife Janet, Salina; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Kenneth Sherwood, Glenn Sherwood, Forrest Sherwood, Dale Sherwood and Clifton Dean Sherwood. 

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Terry Ruebush presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Mortuary. Burial will be in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery.

 Lyons – Angela Michelle Baker, 32, died August 1, 2012, at the Rice County Hospital & Noble Place, Lyons.

She was born August 23, 1979, in Kinsley, the daughter of Robert Duane Jr. and Patricia Marie Kerns Wiley. A lifetime area resident, she was a Certified Nurses Aide and a Cashier in Lyons.

She was a member of the First Church of God, Hutchinson. Angela loved attending church activities, playing games, watching movies and going to the library with her children. She enjoyed watching football and collected horses.

Survivors include; her mother; a son; Ryan Baker, Larned, two daughters; Tamara Baker and Cynthia Baker both of Larned, a brother; Justin Wiley, a sister; Rebecca Scripsick, both of Larned, a half-brother; Joseph DeWayne, Kentucky, and two half-sisters; April Berry, Deighton and Misty Berry, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by; her father, her grandmother, Mary Wiley and Candice Baker.

Ruby L. Ideker

Rozel – Ruby L. Ideker, 87, died July 29, 2012 at the McCrite Plaza Retirement Community, Topeka.

 She was born May 24, 1925 in Hargrave, Kansas; the daughter of John and Grace Carson Kaiser. A longtime area resident she was a homemaker.

 She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, the ELCA, Walnut Valley Senior Center and the Walnut Valley card club.

 On August 7, 1947 she married Vernon Ideker at LaCrosse. He died December 31, 2006.

 Survivors include two sons; Gary and wife Faye, Topeka, Neal, Rozel, two daughters; Vicki and husband Marvin Self, Topeka, Kathy and husband Chuck Deuth, Sun Lakes, Arizona, a sister; Edna Fern Sell, LaCrosse, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by; a daughter; Janice Ideker and a brother; Junior Kaiser.

 Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center with Pastor Patricia Reep presiding. Abby Louise Trapp Prescott

Larned – Abby Louise Trapp Prescott, 22, died July 25, 2012, at Larned.

She was born November 6, 1989, at Great Bend, the daughter of Louis and Loretta Torrez Trapp. A 2008 graduate of Larned High School, she was the Outstanding Girl Athlete & Football Homecoming Queen. A lifetime area resident, she was most recently employed by USD 495 as a Para Professional until her health prevented her from working. 

On August 6, 2011, she married Thomas Strobel Prescott in Larned. He survives. 

Other survivors include: her parents, father, Louis Trapp, Larned; mother, Loretta Trapp, Great Bend; and step-mother, Liz Trapp, Larned; a brother, Josh Cape and wife Janell, Cheney; three sisters, Michelle Briand and husband Charles, Goodyear, Arizona; Laurie Kurtz and husband Don, Manhattan; Alexa Trapp, Larned; Grandmother, Lucy Torrez, Great Bend; In-Laws, Daryl and Melvina Prescott, Garfield; four nieces; Ella, Kiley, Jaiden, Junaé and a nephew; Justice. A host of aunts, uncles and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jesus Torrez and grandmother, Gertrude Trapp. 

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Larned, with Pastor James Underwood presiding. Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary, Larned. The casket will remain closed. Married Myrna Yenne and were later divorced.  He then married Carolyn Ann Showalter Skeels November 9, 1979 at Dighton, Kansas. 

He was an oilfield equipment salesman for various local oil supply companies.

Mr. Sheets was a Great Bend, Kansas, resident since 1962 coming from Smith Center, Kansas.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and Korea.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and American Legion Argonne Post 180, both of Great Bend. He was an avid golfer and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Pawnee Rock – Clay Steffen Schmidt, 52, died July 24, 2012 at his home, Pawnee Rock.

 He was born June 14, 1960 in Larned; the son of Jarold and Ruth Petersen Schmidt. A lifetime area resident, he sold auto parts at Carquest.

 He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Albert; AMA, and the M.A.C.K. flying club.

 On March 26, 1983 he married Crystal Davidson at Larned. She survives.

 Other survivors include; his parents; two sons; Scott and wife Joy, Larned and Nick, Independence, MO; three brothers; Todd, Fort Scott, Curt, Larned and Trent, Tulsa, OK.
